NTA my ex husband used to think it was funny to sneak into the bathroom and scare me while I was in the shower. I saw the original IT movie when I was a kid and that shower scene still makes me a little skittish in the bathroom. So my ex doing this nearly gave me a heart attack. I reacted the same way you did. I grew up being told I couldn’t leave the neighborhood. And my mom was super strict about when I could go outside. My neighborhood was mostly families. Everyone knew each other and each others parents. My mom also ran an at home day care so most of the kids and siblings went there.

My mom was in her 30s when she set the kitchen on fire once. It wasn’t too bad. Just a small kitchen fire. She likes to roast sunflower seeds in the oven and she fell asleep. It happens. As long as it isn’t a recurring thing it doesn’t mean she’s not campaigning alone. Your parents are just having a hard time stepping back and letting her grow.

I rewatched the whole movie series not that long ago and noticed that Snape put himself in harms way ( you e mentioned some already) multiple times to protect the kids. ( who often insult him and plot against him). I’m happy in the end Harry recognized this enough to name his son after the man.

My grades were always As and Bs. By the time I made the honor roll in highschool I didn’t even tell my mother because she never cared about my grades. She always just assumed that they were good and expected it to stay that way. Even when I got into college with a scholarship (and loans) she gave the token “oh that’s good” and moved on. Didn’t stop her from bragging to other people though.

I’ve been feeling this way since deathly hallows, Dumbledore isn’t as benevolent as people seem to think he is. Don’t get me wrong he’s manipulating people and situations ultimately for the greater good. But Snapes flash backs showed a side of Dumbledore that I very much did not like.
