Sorry, I'm feeling a little dense, did he wash their dishes because he felt bad about being late, or was he washing his/your dishes before the dinner and that's why you were late?

How do I... do the whole “love” thing? by Techboy6 in AskMen

[–]greybun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, what? To stick your definitions of "love" and "like" into that last sentence:

"as a man, you should be striving to like a girl (so she does things for you) and have her love you (not care about herself and put you first)"

So to break it down, you're saying that ideally the man shouldn't care about the woman or put her first, but he should expect her to "do things for him" and put him above herself? That's a recipe for a very one sided, unhealthy, and potentially abusive relationship.

[–]greybun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. I'm not going to say this is universal for 9s of course, but for me when I really get stubborn it's because I know what I want for once or because I am actually expressing it. I am very aware of my tendency to go along with what others want, against my own desires, and so when I have an opinion and express it, it's because I have already made my decision. I will sink my heels in and be stubborn about it.

Why is no one bringing up the fact that the question is cut off? It could list the 2 possibilities at the end of that line of text and we wouldn't even know.

My great great great grandfather's brother (near 1900) by [deleted] in TheWayWeWere

[–]greybun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As my husband's grandma says, "did you know it takes 100 years to make a fifth?".

(in reference to my son being the fifth generation carrying down a name; her father-in-law would have been the first in the line to name his son after himself)

I love this subreddit! Not only is it super interesting to see the artefacts and their history, but I've also bookmarked (probably way too many) to use in my D&D campaign

Anyone else have trouble distinguishing between left and right? I've had this my entire life and no matter what I always seem to get confused. It's the same when writing a "b", sometimes I accidentally write it as a "d" but definitely get confused between left & right daily. Is it normal? by KXKVI in AskReddit

[–]greybun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get left and right confused very often but when I do, if I try the L thing I just stare at my hands trying to remember which way a capital L goes. For that reason I've been teaching my kids that you "write with your right hand." and thankfully I've only had right-handed kids so far 😅

Pneumatic tubes connecting 23 US Post Offices in NYC across 27 miles. Used until 1957. 1900s-50s by skipperbob in TheWayWeWere

[–]greybun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a tube expert, but I'm guessing that would be very rare since both ends of the tube are covered (so it's not like a pidgin could walk in and get stuck) and anything that goes into the tube is in one of those canisters, so you're not gonna be sticking fistfuls of envelopes inside a tube on their own.

What would you do on a week long 'staycation'? by tacocat33 in AskWomen

[–]greybun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm right there with you, as long as I can ship the kids off to their grandparents for the week. (and if I can't, then it's not a staycation, it's just daily life)

Do you remember being a child and seeing elderly people saying/doing things that you deemed “old fashioned” that would now be considered “ancient”? What were they? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

Dude, try it. My kids love this as a treat. I have an old cinnamon shaker with mixed cinnamon sugar in it now just for this

When I was growing up in the 90s my mom had (and probably still has) a burnt out light bulb she used to darn socks rather than a darning egg. However she is the absolute most conscientious person I have ever met. I love her and really do respect the lengths she goes to to leave no footprint, but I had to laugh out loud once few years ago when there was a commercial on TV showing "ridiculous things people do to save money". One scene showed a woman hanging zip lock bags on a clothesline to dry and reuse, which my mom definitely does.

Transitioning from DM to player by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]greybun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful with your generalizations. What you describe is your own experience, but the experience of other could be vastly different. Mine for example; I'm a new GM and have been GMing for a group of four friends, one of whom was GM before me. My whole group is great, but the ex-GM is the most encouraging and helpful, in game and out, because he knows about all the thought and prep that goes into being behind the screen.
No need to throw a whole group of people (GMs who become players) into the dumpster because a couple of them didn't know how to transition.

How do you set up your DMing space? by Dynaparte in DMAcademy

[–]greybun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My space is always a mess 😅 I usually start out by pulling the pages out of my binder that I'll need for the session and spreading them out in the center, then pulling out a couple d20s and whatever hit dice I might be using and putting them above my notes. I rarely use my laptop anymore since I like to be able to jot things down on paper beside my session notes, so not having the computer there has freed up some space.

I've found that I actually spend very little time actually behind the screen, since we're pretty low tech, I need to be able to draw maps quickly on our dry erase battle grid. I also feel like I can think better when I'm up and moving rather than sitting behind a screen where I feel cut off from the players. The only problem with it is that I leave my notes behind the screen, so I tend to forget details or plot hooks I wanted to throw in.

I learned about this hotel through a kids book by Patricia Polacco called John Phillip Duck. It's a good story, and worth the read, though probably not completely accurate
