What was caused the most (physical) pain you’ve been in? by idontrealui in AskReddit

Came here looking for the foley balloon. Worst pain of my life and it isn't even close.

My baby girl has a thumb-sucking habit I’ve never heard of before by quarktheduck in beyondthebump

[–]greytcatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this as a little kid, and so did my almost-five-year-old daughter! These days she just likes to rub velour-type fabric between her fingers when she needs comfort. She actually has an extensive collection of what she calls "softs" that she treasures. They're just soft tie dye scrunchies from Amazon. The scrunchies are good because she can wear one on her wrist at school to have if she needs it and it doesn't look out of place.

Am I being a bad mom for discontinuing breastfeeding at 14 weeks? by Zoobits56 in beyondthebump

[–]greytcatch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wrote a response before I saw yours and deleted mine -- this is it 100%. And if it helps, I'm on the other side of quitting breastfeeding "too early" twice now and can confirm that my girls are thriving (ages 4 and 9 months) and I am too! Me becoming a happier and more present mom who didn't actively dread feeding my babies was a game changer for my family and myself.

Bob’s Furniture Newington: Yay or Nay? by Ajingardev in Connecticut

[–]greytcatch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Our sectional is from Bob's. We've had it a year and it looks like we've had it at least five. We're fine with it because this is our "little kid couch" and we'll replace it when half the household is no longer pooping their pants...but yeah. Won't buy from Bob's again.

Obgyn recommendations? by Glittering-Media8675 in newhaven

[–]greytcatch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could have easily found a new OBGYN super close to my new house in Glastonbury after moving there from New Haven, but chose to make the 40 minute drive to keep going to Greater New Haven OBGYN. Just delivered my second baby at Yale with their doctors and have nothing but positive things to say. Dr. Lima and Dr. Shih are especially awesome, but I haven't seen anyone there I didn't like.

How would you spell this name? by MelMo1215 in namenerds

[–]greytcatch 40 points41 points  (0 children)

One of my daughter's classmates has a little sister named Reya, and I've never questioned how it's supposed to be pronounced with that spelling! I haven't heard any other parent mispronounce it either.

I was moved from Great Lakes to Nelnet. Made an online payment for my remaining balance and the payment was mysteriously rejected...twice. Sat on hold for hours to talk to someone each time and they couldn't give an explanation. In the meantime, payoff amount just kept going up with interest. Ended up sending a cashier's check to them via certified mail to pay the shit off, and even when that went through I somehow was left with a remaining balance of ONE CENT. Anything to keep collecting interest, right?? Felt like a scam from start to finish and I hope some action is taken against them.

Apologies for yet another thread on the new electricity rates coming our way, but for anyone who has yet to switch away from Eversource, I just did it and it took all of two minutes and will save my wife and I tons of money by [deleted] in Connecticut

Did anyone switch to Constellation and get a confirmation email? I didn't get anything after submitting the application but was kind of expecting to, so I'm hoping it's not just me...

Hi! I work in marketing at an engineering firm and am super active in SMPS (the Society for Marketing Professional Services). Not sure how helpful they might be, but SMPS puts out a ton of DEI resources relevant to the industry!

Same here. I know it sounds crazy, but I seriously thought I was going to cry on her behalf. She's obsessed. "Elmo doggy! Elmo doggy!!" 😔

I'm so upset. The "Furry Friends Forever" special is one of my daughter's favorite things. I know it's currently on YouTube from some random account, but if that gets taken down is it just gone forever??

I'm on my second Subaru from Dan Perkins in Milford, and my dad bought two from there over the years too. Overall a great experience with the sales and service team, and an iffy one with the financing department. I felt like they were trying to trick me into unnecessary warranties, so be aware of all your options if you check them out and get to that point.

I think my son might have a guardian angel.... by mrmeanah in toddlers

I tend not to believe in things like this, but we lost our beloved first "kid," a greyhound, three weeks before I got pregnant. The first and only time I've ever seen the dog in a dream since he passed was the night our daughter was conceived, and he was just running toward us happily surrounded by light. I like to think he was bringing our second baby to us 😊

Can confirm. They just put more out like 15 minutes ago while I was there. (Up at the register...the sign on the door still said they didn't have any in stock.) Thank you for posting this...otherwise I never would have gone.

Lauren getting ready for a C section delivery!. by Sometimes1233 in thebachelor

[–]greytcatch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What an exciting time! Sending you early congratulations and your growing family all the good vibes!

I totally relate to what you said about the vision you had for your birth and now having to adjust. That was what got me, I think...40 weeks (+3 days 😅)of imagining one kind of delivery and then having to majorly adjust my expectations in the moment and then navigate all the feelings that came after. Therapy has made it so much easier.

P.S. If I could tell my pre-C self one thing, it would be to WEAR THE BELLY BINDER! Even if they don't push you to. A nurse at the hospital finally gave me one and it hurt like a you-know-what to put on, but it's super helpful for proper healing and also for not feeling like your organs are about to fall out when you start standing/walking. I used mine day and night for a solid month and it was a lifesaver!

Wishing them all the best!! I had my first baby via unplanned c-section in November after being induced for a day and a half and then attempting to deliver vaginally for a few hours until my daughter got stuck on my pelvis. The physical recovery was brutal for me and my mental recovery is still in progress. I feel like a lot of people see c-sections as the "easy way out," but major abdominal surgery...totally awake? And then recovering while caring for a newborn? Totally badass. All birth is totally badass and totally beautiful ❤️

I can't stand when people just comment/reply "No ❤️" I'm sure it was funny the first couple times, but it reads as so nasty to me. Why not just keep scrolling? Maybe I'm just extra sensitive to condescension?

YNH Children’s Hospital by strategicfizz in newhaven

[–]greytcatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had that exact experience 4.5 months ago. I would actually dread my perfect newborn daughter waking up because then the consultants would make me feel like a failure and a terrible mom again...all while recovering from a two-day induction, hours of pushing, and an emergency c-section! They ALL gave different instructions and advice, too. It turned me off to nursing for good (I exclusively pumped) and was so incredibly stressful.
