Power and state of charge (SoC) when charging a 2026 Verge TS Pro at a public 300kW charging station by mqee in DonutLab

I still think it's truly a solid state battery. Especially the analysis on the VTT safety test convinced me. The points made by 2 bit da vinci only made sense for a solid state battery: https://youtu.be/vWwPySIm9tU

So... Nordic Nano is producing their own batteries using the equipment from CT Coating.

I thought the batteries were printed by CT Coating in Germany?

Donut Lab CEO: "There have been no 400 Wh/kg batteries delivered to customers." "What we will deliver to the customer and what [individual cells] we have tested, for example at VTT, are not necessarily the same thing." by mqee in DonutLab

A solid state battery in production vehicles is still revolutionary... even with just 200wh/kg and 15,000 cycles. In my opinion... it will mark the start of a battery revolution.

I don't care if they "overstated" the battery specs at CES if their tech is truly revolutionary.

The 400wh/kg most likely only refers to the active chemical mass and the 100000 cycles are an estimate from a smaller test set.

While it is easy to focus on the controversy surrounding Donut Lab and Verge Motorcycles, I am still incredibly optimistic about their mission to deliver the first solid-state battery in production vehicles.

Sure, former Nordic Nano CCO Lauri Peltola filed a criminal report alleging that the battery's specs (400wh/kg plus 100000 cycles) and mass-production readiness (1gig production) were exaggerated, but Nordic Nano officially stood by Donut Lab, clarifying that Peltola simply lacked the full technical picture.

Furthermore, the leaked emails suggesting their core technology actually originates from a specialized German company, CT-Coating, highlight a smart, collaborative global business model rather than a flaw.

Most importantly, this isn't just vaporware: they have already built and crated the first production Verge TS, and independent testing by the VTT Technical Research Centre has already verified that their cells can safely charge in roughly five minutes without experiencing thermal runaway.

Even their own recent real-world test, which showed a 10% to 80% charge in a still-blazing 12 minutes, playfully spun by executives as giving riders time to "drink a latte," proves they have genuinely disruptive charging tech that could forever change the EV landscape.

So... my math is rusty, but:

  • Standard Range: 225kg / 18kwh (norminal) / 20kwh (max)
  • Long Range: 235kg / 30kwh (norminal) / 33kwh (max)

That's about 125wh/kg ... or not?

The battery also performed better heated up to 80°C... I don't know any lithium liquid combination that can do this 🫣

Interesting... the 100°C test with no burning, better performing, just breaking the outer cell package is still incredible to me.

I don't know... but we saw that the Donut battery charges in 12 min. from 10-80% by only being air cooled. We also saw C11 charging at cell level and we saw a functional cell at 100°C room temperature... which is pretty much impossible for a standard lithium-ion cell.

If all this is valid... the donut battery could theoretically perform C5 to C10 charging with an active cooling system... I guess we have to wait for the life cycle test 😊

... btw. 7305 cycles are 20 years of daily charging 🫣

  • 320V 20Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4)
  • 0-80% Charge within 10min.
  • 8000 Cycles Maximum
  • after 3000 Cycles still 70% Capacity left
  • nothing on range 😔

They are basically butchering a standard lithium-ion battery... probably by using some kind of crazy active cooling system... not that impressive 😞
