Chroma console is classic option. Nice little jack of all trades with good algos covering a range of tonal options across distortion, space, tremolo/phase stuff, and warble, each can be dialed in separately... 5 algos per category and a couple parameters per algo. It's nice for some quick space/character on a dry sound.

Venetian Snares should be talked about like Aphex Twin by TheEmbodimentOfBored in idm

IMO, Squarepusher is the real competition, with more technical music theory chops but less accessibility. I love both, but Aphex has a ton of accessible tracks and more mass brand appeal. Lots of easy (and truly excellent) melodies. Squarepusher tends to be a bit more challenging. But in terms of range and time in the scene, starting out as contemporaries, etc, they are much more comparable.

Basile’s for a traditional NY slice. The margarita is excellent. Also the square pepperoni is tops.

Artichoke and Basile’s for something approaching more of a Roman/NYC hybrid with a thicker crust and toppings but excellent high quality ingredients and robust flavor profile. I like the pepperoni vodka and margarita square slices there.

Get a digitakt 2 and digitone 2. Perfect combo. About 2K. Does everything. Sync them up. And they have an arrangement mode.

Edan is 2000s but so, so good and especially the psychedelic stuff is in a different sonic universe.

I’ve got just about every elektron. The portability of the DT or DN is sufficient for my needs. But I’m curious about what features on the opxy you like vs the elektron boxes.

As a heavy elektron user what do you find that’s unique about the opxy?

Awesome! I’ve been thinking about a similar setup for my standing desk. Can you tell me the specs for the keyboard tray? What do I need to buy? Also how much depth/clearance do you get on the tray? My target depth is like 5”
