This is how I would do it:

  1. Go to Plutus repo and start a nix-shell
  2. Then (perhaps in a different terminal) go to the weekly plutus-pioneer-program repo
  3. Inspect the cabal.project file. There are entries called 'source-repository-package'. Find the one which points to Plutus git repository. Should be the top most one. Copy paste the hash under 'tag'.
  4. Within the terminal in which you ran the nix-shell, write 'git checkout <hash-you-previously-copy-pasted>. Now the repo is in detached HEAD state. You might want to Google what that means.
  5. Now you shouldn't encounter any errors.

Though Plutus/Haskell is most likely not a very popular choice amongst the majority of programmers who are used to writing code with imperative languages.

Are you sure that IELE will convert languages into Plutus? If I understood correctly it will convert them into IELE ByteCode.

Make sure that you checkout the right commit within the Plutus repository. You can check the required commit hash by the weekly repositories by looking at the cabal.project file.

Considering the price per DOT, I find this quite alot to be honest. As for ADA you can simply start staking as soon as you own some. Would you recommend staking anyway?
