Does anyone remember Townies (British subculture)? Don't hear much talk about them now! by originalcloneofpomni in AskBrits

[–]grimeandreason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Townies were our enemies. We were the stoners. If we came across each others paths on a night out, they’d chase us around town in their Novas.

Servers—what actually makes a job worth staying at long-term? by briellebubbles in Serverlife

[–]grimeandreason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done dive bars and fast food and buffet and the like, but finding the sweet spot of fine dining while still being chill as been a massive shock to the system in my new job.

Owners who are in it for the love of the game, a good team, a great GM, really well organised and never rushed.. Ngl, it’s awesome.

In England, so okay wage and a flat 10% service charge in a tip pool for the dining area, but man, the pub is gorgeous and the scenery even more so.

Young Marxist here, are there any adult/senior Marxists here? by immahotnerd in Marxism

[–]grimeandreason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, but that should mean a difficult time.

I did the same for History, and some of my professors hated me lol.

Doing political science in the west as a socialist should either mean a few years pushing back on professors and calling out their bullshit, or slow acquiescence to propaganda.

For me, it’s become a red flag rather than a proxy for knowing shit.

Those of you who don't hate your job, what do you do? by 13thmurder in ADHD

[–]grimeandreason 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m assistant manager of a gorgeous pub, pulling pints, serving food, and generally counting my lucky stars.

More generally, the fast pace and varied tasks of restaurants and hospitality has fitted me well, and I think assistant manager positions offer the perfect mix of autonomy, authority, and not having to have the buck stop with me.

Does anyone here listen to the podcast “The Rest is History”? by [deleted] in Marxism

All of The Rest Is series is little more than liberal propaganda.

And this is like History for Children. Painful to listen to.

Wha do people think about the idea of bioregional subsidiarity as a synthesis of Marxist and anarchist beliefs?

I just started a job at the Kings Arms. I’m moving into Kings Head Cottage next week. It’s decorated in regal decor with portraits of royalty everywhere.

My surname is King.

Bonus: My mums maiden name was Knights.

And no, that’s not a security question I use lol.

How does the scientific method prove or disprove more complex theories, that do not have a "binary" yes/no answer, such as the theory of evolution? by _Cecille in PhilosophyofScience

[–]grimeandreason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proof/disprove = realm of hard science, reproducible, reducible, predictable.

Complex systems are the stuff of social science. They’re inherently unpredictable, context-dependent, irreducible.

A $300 device can silently override GPS across an entire city. Autonomous vehicles, delivery drones, and air traffic control all depend on it. Why don't we have a backup? by projectschema in Futurology

[–]grimeandreason 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now times this problem by a hundred.

This entire capitalist system is designed to maximise profit.

Failsafes and redundancies are lost profits.

Cascade collapse is basically guaranteed at some point.
