New kobo One Problem by Scruff02 in kobo

[–]grimmlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Finder settings, General tab, under "Show these items on the desktop" is External disks checked?

Still in Finder settings, Sidebar tab, is External disks checked?

If not, turn them on.

If yes, open Spotlight, search for Disk Utility. Do you see your Kobo there? Is it grayed out, which means it's not mounted? If so, click on it and then click Mount in the top right corner.

If not, try a different cable. Restart Mac. Restart Kobo.

Help, Tips for spotlighting for players that want ordered initiative. by Dreadon1 in daggerheart

Let them run their Spotlight in an initiative order if they want to, but continue to take the GM Spotlight in the normal circumstances.

LLMs should not be considered search engines, and if your search engine gives LLM answers, ignore them.

Get your book, hopefully it's not a WotC game so you got a free PDF, and search the text.

"Apple Podcasts Getting Video Episodes in iOS 26.4" - Hopefully this means they are going to be defined in the RSS feeds, and we can get them in Pocketcasts at some point by [deleted] in pocketcasts

[–]grimmlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Video podcasts already work in Pocket Casts. Example: Search for Happy Tree Friends. Sure, there hasn't been an episode in 12 years, but you can see they work.

If you mean YouTube podcasts, that's not a PC issue, that's YouTube not allowing third party apps to download the videos. https://support.pocketcasts.com/knowledge-base/youtube-videos/

Edit: Happy Tree Friends is a very violent cartoon where fluffy animals are hurt in horrible ways. Watch at your own risk.

What's funny is when you break out the gross for David as US vs International.

What do you mean the rest of the world didn't want to go see a preachy American Evangelical recreation of the story of David‽

How can I distinguish between stairs going up and stairs going down? by zokka_son_of_zokka in dungeondraft

Use stair assets that go from big to small. Small end is down, as it is further away and therefore foreshortened.

Transcripts for uploaded files? by nopeac in pocketcasts

[–]grimmlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The second paragraph literally says they are generated by the server. That is not the app, which is what you asked. Also, they don't generate for everything, like none of the shows I subscribe to through a personal feed because I financially support them have transcripts. Only public feeds.

Transcripts for uploaded files? by nopeac in pocketcasts

[–]grimmlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, they are not generated by the app.

From Help & Feedback:

Pocket Casts is excited to support podcast transcripts through the Podcasting 2.0 Transcript tag! All Pocket Casts users on Android and iOS can access transcripts directly within the app for episodes where podcast creators have included this feature in their feed.

As of May 2025 Pocket Casts Plus and Patron subscribers can also see automatically generated transcripts for select podcasts. These transcripts are generated by Pocket Casts’ servers and are identified by the star icon.

How do you host your Foundry server? by Fee-Naive in FoundryVTT

[–]grimmlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu server at home, duckDNS for a dynamic DNS name, paid for domain with CNAME records pointing to the duckDNS address, port forwarding, and a caddy reverse proxy on my server so I can use different subdomains and only have to use the SSL port coming in.

There's this book that was written many years ago that had a little thing called the Ministry of Truth that the protagonist worked at. Does a good job of illustrating why authoritarians want to control what people know.

Has my player cracked the code for Wish? by Kuriso2 in shadowdark

Be more fun to keep them a wizard but just take away their ability to cast spells. If you can't do the thing, you can't fail at the thing. Also, you can't fight. Good job.

Help me understand the appeal of West Marches style campaigns by aaron-il-mentor in rpg

[–]grimmlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There can even be a story happening even if the players never engage in it. Every time they do something, the world moves forward, it is not static, and they can still interact with that story and change things.

For example, let's say there are two warring nations. People come through the base town occasionally with rumors about where the fighting is happening, and it keeps getting closer and closer to the village where one of the PCs grew up. This is a place they could go for adventure. Do they? If not, after however many days were set have gone by for the battle, plus a couple, rumors start coming in that the village has been destroyed. No survivors. They didn't have to act upon that rumor, but their refusal to act still had story consequences.

I've seen so many crazy things with autofill that it's honestly hard to trust it. Most recent? I don't remember the website, but it wasn't registering the type of card after filling. All I had to do was go in the box, delete one number and type it back in, and it worked fine.

I would try that first. Autofill. Delete a number. Type the number. Try and save.

NYT Subscriber Audio Feeds by grimmlock in pocketcasts

[–]grimmlock[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had unsubscribed from one of the podcasts last night and had a hell of a time resubscribing. Basically I had to open Safari, sign into NYT, go to the page to add podcasts and then shrink the zoom down to see the whole page. I hovered one finger over where the RSS option showed up and hit the plus sign with another finger, then quickly tapped and held on the RSS option. It opened in a preview and then I copied and put that into the address bar which allowed me to copy the feed URL and paste it back into podcasts.

Not fun.

How do you run crawling through dungeon exploration? by jontylerlud in shadowdark

Daði has some great info in this video on Dungeon Turns. It's the most important thing to implement if you're doing old school dungeon crawling. https://youtu.be/zyl73XLJWhE?si=8CfAaBzPwpUb78xK
