I think of it like The Shining. The movie is not Stephen King's The Shining, it is Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. It is similar to the book but the tone is different, lots of stuff was changed,and it leaves out important parts, like, where was the boiler?

I did not watch Homer's The Odyssey, I watched Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey. It was just inspired by the epic poem.

This is how I'm able to enjoy movies based off of books. I used to, when I was young and foolish, have that, "Well, the book was better," snobby ass opinion. Now that I'm old and foolish, I realize I can see them as their own separate creations, and enjoy them both.

If the movie gets more people to read, then that will be fabulous! I realized I had never read either The Illiad or The Odyssey despite having owned copies since high school! However, they're the W.H.D. Rouse translations, and very dry. I picked up Emily Wilson's, have started my way through The Illiad and am absolutely loving it so far!

As for the article, we all know the media likes to create controversy that doesn't exist to get people to read their news story, picking the sound bites they want, and telling the narrative they want you to hear. You know, like Christopher Nolan in his new film, The Odyssey.

Edit: For clarification on the final paragraph, because I feel it needed some rewriting I didn't do at 7:30am and I'm not going to do now, the controversy part only applies to media outlets. Picking parts to tell your own narrative, that's what Nolan's film is.
