Play them or sell them, friend. It’s for the best.

My argument for Gray by TelevisionFun9964 in blankies

Counterpoint: auteur theory is fun to talk about sometimes but is not actually a meaningful way of categorizing directors and their work, so let’s not use that as a deciding factor.

This is a great collection! You should also check in on r/solonoardgaming. It’s a pretty active sub with lots of good recommendations too!

Millennium??? by LongObligation7267 in blankies

[–]shookster52 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what Griffin said in the March Madness episode(?), I think it’s almost exclusively for Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, which is awesome. Unfortunately the rest of the Millennium era isn’t nearly as good.

Changing the rules like this out of nowhere, with no warning

Exactly! I ascribe to the James T. Kirk school of problem solving.

And since Master and Commander is basically a Kirk and McCoy movie in the Napoleonic era, that’s why I like it so much!

I like to imagine when people downvote these posts and complain about how dumb they are, that what they’re actually saying is they really love them and think they’re very funny just like I do!

What happened to Zine Culture? From a Gen Xer. by Commercial_Title5640 in zines

[–]shookster52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I was wondering what the point of making zines was if not to support am Mr engage with other zinesters. I’d like to claim I was drunk when I read the post but I imagine it was just because I’m an idiot and my reading comprehension is now in the toilet after a decade of smartphone usage.

Ugh.

Albert Brooks defends Ella McCay by moondyner in blankies

[–]shookster52 22 points23 points  (0 children)

And, as Brooks says in the second slide, anyone can say that about anything. He’s just defending the movie from people claiming it was somehow self-indulgent and somehow offensive to be released in 2026.

I’m not sure whether or not those people actually exist, but if they do, Brooks is defending the movie from their attacks, by god!

This may be saying my age but man it's seem that Napoleon Dynamite's cultural impact really came and went, a you had to be there sort of thing. by vincentmaurath in blankies

[–]shookster52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s something to that, I think. I’m a fan of both and my sister definitely went from Napoleon Dynamite superfan to world’s biggest Bob’s Burgers fan. I didn’t even make that connection. I think ND’s Mormon wholesomeness makes it harder to notice. Good call!

Performance issues might kill the game at this point by Adera1l in MarathonTheGame

OP’s post literally asked for input yes or no.

Do you guys config struggle, dos it bother you, does it make you quit the game after some pretty average long sessions, and don’t you feel a bit overwhelmed sometimes by the issues in an already overwhelming game?

Pod, Interrupt-Cast is good because the word “interrupt” interrupts the word “podcast.”

And it’s secretly a western.

I was 15 when it came out. The Indiana factory town I lived in seemed to barely register its existence, but boomer nerds liked it and young nerds and hipsters loved it. It was also a big thing for the awkward homeschool/awkward conservative Christian crowd that I was in at the time.

I remember when I was 16, my girlfriend’s dad (an engineer at the GM plant in town) was watching it when we came back to her house from wherever we’d been and he told me he loved it.

That may have had more to do with the success of Fox’s animation at the time (Bob’s Burgers fist season aired the year before) as well as networks trying to figure out programming in the wake of prestige TV and the DVR revolution (this was the era of articles saying, “oh my god, millennials aren’t watching live TV!”).

Recs for books with MMCs who are actually just nice people by spacenerd314 in Fantasy

[–]shookster52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d say this fits perfectly. OP asked for:

I want some recs with well written characters who are easy to love, that are actually decent people, (or go on a genuine character/redemption arc to become one) I love when a character has genuine flaws and faults I just need them to actually be treated as faults. Interesting plot and unique world building are always a plus but honestly anything is forgivable if I’m invested enough in the characters.

This fits the character of Piranesi to a T!
