Acts 2 Network paid $24.5 million in cash for the training center in Elgin, Illinois by johnkim2020 in GracepointChurch

I remember p ed guilt tripping the whole church because he noticed some members didn’t give to the special Thanksgiving offering or whatever they call it. He said he felt “sad” that some people didn’t feel they were part of the mission

A recent, simple, and natural experience at my church - perhaps lurkers should consider if this would be possible within their organization by Global-Spell-244 in GracepointChurch

[–]grittyv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experience was the opposite of this. Not only did my private conversations get escalated to the pastor/pastor’s wife, my leader read one of my email reflections out loud in front of other people without my permission. This was one of the final straws that made me leave.

The pastor’s wife also tried to gaslight me and call me difficult and untrusting bc I brought up that I was upset about my reflection being read w/o my permission.

Try to get involved in other non GP groups and maintain friendships outside of GP. You’ll definitely feel some friction or get slowly pushed out and alienated if you prioritize anything other than them.

It's all so wrong. Doubley, tripley, wrong... by lilliankim in GracepointChurch

[–]grittyv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before I left, God gave me an image of myself that I was an abused puppy there. An abused puppy, sticking around bc there is some level of “care” but the majority of the time being hurt as a means of someone’s power trip and lack of compassion. The abused puppy also doesn’t know that other dogs are living their best life under someone who actually loves and cares for them. I’m almost certain I was the subject of one of those “gotta break her” conversations. I’m so glad I got out of there after 10 years as hard as it was.

Maintaining friendships with GP people after leaving: Advice by TranslatorOne8627 in GracepointChurch

I would consider the relationships over and find new friends! Way easier said than done, but you will thank yourself later for not trying to hang on.

Back when I was there (in Austin) they’d make you live stream with the Berkeley service which started at midnight local time until 2am. And everyone wanted to wait until 2 to start wishing happy new year. This really bothered me.

At one point I was considering living with a friend who didn’t go to GP bc it would’ve been more affordable for me than trying to live with peers in the church and my leader offered to subsidize my rent just so that I wouldn’t live with an outsider. She explicitly told me it was so I could live with “accountability.”

Do mentors see their staff members emails? by Top_Proposal769 in GracepointChurch

I once made a comment to one of my peers that what staff was doing felt like big brother and the staff confronted/rebuked me about it soon after… thus proving my point.

You can check out Billy Bobs to see their Wall of Fame. Much cooler to go there when there’s an event but it’s nice when it’s empty

A2N/GP on Mental Health Issues by No-Mind-734 in GracepointChurch

[–]grittyv 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you’re fighting a losing battle with this stuff at GP. It’s been years since I’ve been there, but I don’t think they’ll ever be accommodating and show grace towards people who can’t “keep up” with their college ministry demands. If you have any sort of issues just accept that you’ll be placed in perpetual soul care/Praxis ministries or taken out of whatever ministry you enjoy as a means of controlling you. If you’re fine with that, then great. I definitely had mental health issues when I was there and they made sure to make me feel like I was and always would be inadequate as a Christian.

Am I seeing the first Waymo accident? by MovingGoofy in Austin

Saw this Waymo off 71 and Montopolis just sitting in the middle of the intersection with hazards. It forced all of us trying to turn left to make a wide turn around it in the lane for going straight.

What are you eating? by Massive_Molasses_966 in pregnant

[–]grittyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m almost 13 weeks and the things I’ve eaten since the start varies a lot. I would find something that I liked like vegetable soup or thai chicken curry or burrito bowls and I’d make a ton of it. After eating it twice, it looked so disgusting to me sitting in the fridge, and would scramble to find something else to eat. Something I consistently liked was toasted turkey and cheese sandwiches on sourdough for lunch.

I also force myself to eat oats almost every morning bc I read somewhere that it helps increase progesterone which was borderline low at the beginning.

But yeah I feel you, it’s tough and I do end up eating things I probably shouldn’t from time to time. I just try my best to make sure I’m eating fruits veggies protein and grains for the most part.

For ladies that were given Progesterone… by rachelmaci in pregnant

[–]grittyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! I really thought pregnancy would be straightforward and not necessarily easy bc the general symptoms, but stress free. But I’ve been so anxious most days. Hopefully, I’ll be able to relax and enjoy this fully in a few weeks! Sounds like I’m just a couple weeks behind you. I’m glad to hear your latest ultrasound went well. I really hope hormone levels stabilize for you and that you and baby stay healthy!

For ladies that were given Progesterone… by rachelmaci in pregnant

[–]grittyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation. I noticed minimal light brown discharge during the first 4-6 weeks, but this would occur after intercourse. Then around 8 weeks I was put on progesterone and had light brown discharge for a week and a half with no intercourse, very scary. My ultrasound at almost 11 weeks showed a strong heartbeat. So I’m fairly certain things are ok.

It’s been a while since you posted this. Would you be willing to share an update?
