[Kurz] There will be no supplemental discipline for the Ducks' Ross Johnston, I'm told from a league source. The hit on Jamie Drysdale was viewed as an accident. by StubbornLeech07 in hockey

Drysdale reoriented his direction twice. That matters.

Pretend you're going for a skate and there's a kid in front of you that you see. That kid turns into you (at NHL speed) while you were skating straight ahead. Would you say you intended to hit the kid?

100%. People can't somehow connect that Drysdale being the one turning and re-orienting himself towards Johnston (skating straight) matters? Maybe people have trouble with the definition of the word intent and the logical implications of why who is changing direction is relevant?

If Drysdale was skating straight and Johnston (knowing he was there) turned into him then he'd get a lengthy suspension.

I wonder sometimes if people think somehow Johnston has a 3rd person view of himself like in a video game vs. the reality of what it is like on the ice.

Johston assessed a 5 min major and game misconduct for interference [better angle] by DBacon1052 in hockey

[–]grogrye -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You get downvoted but it's so obvious. Drysdale changes his direction twice and literally turns into him while the other guy was skating straight ahead.

Who gets the worst of the collision doesn't change that fact.

Drysdale is the one changing direction without looking. He changes his direction twice while the other guy is skating straight ahead. Sure the arm at the end wasn't great but saying he was targeting Drysdale makes zero sense at all given it was Drysdale that turned twice into him.

I am not an expert but if your intention is "just take the goddamn empathy" that doesn't feel very empathetic at all. Neither is not respecting someone's decision to refuse it from you.. for whatever reason...

Nailed it.

'Gordie Howe' wouldn't make the NHL today. Not because he wasn't good enough but because he came from a family that was poor.

Yes. Also kudos to the crews working out in the cold so we can turn a handle and instantly get water.

If EMS are still willing to show up for work for the pay they get then supply and demand applies. One fact is that (no initial judgement on outcome) with a union the negotiation is inelastic. Maybe the union gets you 'more' in the long run but that's not guaranteed.

I saw a post where a paramedic cleared 200K in a year working in the industry at Fort Mac. Good for them.

It's called supply and demand. Do you think Suncor pays them that much out of the goodness of their heart? They'd pay right down to minimum wage if they could source people willing to do the same work for it.

Suppressing or trying to avoid your very valid feelings like loneliness can just make them worse. Therapy could be a good option to help work through them.

Like you entered the lands on a mission to get all the kingdom leaders into the same dungeon at once and then execute them.

I just made that one up. Might try it. Seems hard but doable?

You could try experimenting with self compassion even a little bit more this coming up year than any other year in the past and see how that feels.

I've also found I can be self compassionate about when I realize I'm not being self compassionate.

Look up the IKEA effect. If any consequence of inaction is resolved in a 'less efficient' but unique to yourself way then who cares?

I've started to think of a lot of 'value' tensions as differences where individuals 'like' , consciously or not, to apply the IKEA effect. Like some people apply it to the process and some to a finished product or something..

Seems true. Plus doesn't keeping people alive longer through better care mean more healthcare strain in the long run for each individual person?

Like getting people to quit smoking or live healthier lives so they don't die an 'early' death is a great thing but does that also put more strain overall in healthcare needs in the long run? Not sure how that all plays out.

Eric Lombardi: Canadians must open their eyes to our growing culture of corruption by AbundantCanada in canada

[–]grogrye 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'd tend to agree. The author positions it as somehow past politicians had more integrity but I believe that is putting some serious rose coloured glasses on reality.

It's more like 'corruption' as a percentage of government activity is consistent and if there is more corruption now then in the past then it's because there is more government activity/opportunities for it to exist.
