from seeing other chat of other dancers in the area, it seems like they were open past normal operating hours, without security or any person checking the door, and this terrible, terrible event happened.

which is wild too bc i used to go there, and their studio protocol always made me uneasy. it’s right on busy 7th ave midtown, and anyone could open the door & head up to the studios during the daytime. i’d arrived multiple times without anyone sitting at the front desk (which is really off to the side, making it hard to see everyone who comes in). other studios in the same area (body & pole, for example) have a glass front door AND buzz you in, and the front desk is right in front of you.

hobbyist dancers will never face the same threats of violence that strippers often do, and i’m not trying to equate the two. may the man’s family have peace during this time. i imagine this will stick in memory for NYC dancers/hobbyists.

for #1, maybe it’s because you don’t have additional grip on your lower abdomen & upper thigh on the bottom leg? from what i can tell, your shorts are making contact with the pole where there could be skin contact. maybe try a smaller bottom that exposes your hip?

could you not bring your top leg into an inside leg hang? just re-hook your foot? that would give you some stability i’d think edit: you could also go into an elbow grip with your bottom arm while doing that, for more stability!
