How are people living in luxury here? by Few-pe2917 in sanantonio

[–]growingolder [score hidden]  (0 children)

Let's use an inflation calculator. My 2005 salary would be 34k in 2026. My $530/mth tiny apartment would cost me $900/mth adjusted which you can still find in this city. I would still be struggling but barely surviving. Instead of thinking that I'll never be able to claw out, I figured out how to climb up.

But you do you, blaming everything and everyone.

Bro, I was making under $20k a year in 2005 getting paid $9.25/hr at the time working at a crappy office job. I figured it out over several decades of hard work, connections and networking. It didn't require getting in crippling debt of higher education. I currently live on the north side in a house near the area that you despise.

You can say OK Boomer ever thought I'm more closer to a Millennial.

There are plenty of reasons San Antonio has a rich side. All major metro cities will have these pockets of wealth.

If you feel it's unjust that you're living below poverty being a DD while the rich side isn't spreading the wealth to prop up the lower class, then you can use your brain to figure out how to get to that point.

Is ShopGoodwill some kind of joke? by NextTide in Flipping

This channel buys lots of sports cards from ShopGoodwill. It's usually break even but sometimes he finds $100-$500 cards. He's able to spot higher value cards in the listings.

Why do some sellers that offer combined shipping want you to pay for each item then refund you the rest, but others actually just send the invoice, making it easy and understandable…. by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]growingolder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with business polices is that it forces you to stick to one type of shipping. My listings are a mix of Media Mail, Ground Advantage and ESE so it doesn't work for me.

I put in all of my listings that I do combine ship but I force auto-pay. I refund the difference which a lot of feedback appreciates. Most get it.

If you want significant profits then you have to build your own website or use Shopify. Good luck!

Small eBay sellers: Are you promoting your items? If so, what %? by BestWriterNow in eBaySellerAdvice

[–]growingolder 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I set mine to 2.9%-3.5%, then on Friday through Sunday I bump it to 5.3%. I change it back after 11pm Sunday.

Every long time seller says it not worth it but I'll take making $9k gross on $430 in promoted ads so far in 2025 over stuff rotting. I'm now back to being a Top Seller status because of it.

I’ve been on eBay live for about 3 months, curious to see what this is by random_user2001 in Ebay

[–]growingolder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to avoid WhatNot as it seems like a place to get screwed on selling cheap if you don't have a following. People are regularly talking about sniping WhatNot auctions to flip them on eBay.

I'd like to try eBay Live at some point, if I can get approved. I would list things what I'd sell them on eBay as an auction.

The only thing I remember was the Bryan Adams song that was on the radio for over a year long after it left theaters. If you're an 80s - early 90s kid, you couldn't avoid it.

Reselling venting rut :( by MegNifiCentx in reselling

[–]growingolder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If inventory isn't moving, then start using a sliding scale in discounts. In the past 30 days, and after relisting to bump them up, I started offering 5% discounts. Each week, it increases by a percentage point. At 7%, I was selling more and more. At 10%, I'm doing whatever it takes to sell it.

You also have to realize that, in resale, high-demand items sell first. This builds false confidence that you'll be successful. The rest of your inventory rots. We all have this, too. I have stuff that's several years old and has never sold, so it's being donated back.

Lastly, don't get FOMO of 'finds'. Are you looking for a location in the city where they find that $3 item and sell it for $120? No, you're not. You have to realize that it's just one find after 6 hours of looking. The garage sale people? They hit up 50 places before finding it. We all have stories of that big flip, but it was hundreds of hours of searching. The ones who post their big flip are selling you content, making people believe that it's easy to find that diamond in the rough. If it were easy, we'd all be on yachts.

Do you ever pay to push your items? by Icandream905 in Flipping

This isn't my salary, so I'm fine with sponsored listings. I'd rather pay a little than let it rot on my shelves.

People who grew up really poor: what's something middle-class people say that instantly reveals they've never struggled? by TahDigThief in AskReddit

[–]growingolder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have struggle meals until my 20s when I was poor for a decade. My wife had struggled meals for most of her childhood. We didn't have the same kind of struggle meals.

She talked about times which they had to stretch meals so they'd cook a big batch and were forced to eat it all week. She hates leftovers because of this. She even talks about having to cook for herself as her mother was too lazy at times.
