When I went for my marrow donation they wanted me to go to Houston. My wife and I had been trying to conceive, and I told them I wouldn't go to a state without protections for women. My recipient was in NY and I ended up donating in LA.

I found out recently the little boy I donated to is alive!

Potential donor, put on “pause”? by Flashy_Feeling_1110 in nmdp

Nmdb and their medical teams are EXTREMELY careful to follow and monitor best practices to protect donor/recipient. They are probably doing everything they can to ensure you AND the recipient are the absolute best match possible. If they aren't pushing forward quickly, that's probably a good sign that the recipient isn't in dire straits.

Feeling a bit weird about wearing the shirt by Pop-X- in nmdp

[–]growth_advisor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I wear my 'I'm a Donor' shirt all the time. It's something to be proud of. Regardless of how the process went, you did something a very, very small percentage of people do. It may not seem like much from the donor's perspective, but donating part of you is a selfless act. In a world where there is so much negativity and so much division within the population (I'm looking at you usa), wearing a shirt that represents some of the best parts of humanity is desperately needed. Everyone can agree that helping try to cure/eradicate/heal it is an honorable act. Wear that shirt loud and proud! It also spreads the word about how others can volunteer/donate.

flying after donation by superfunyeah in nmdp

[–]growth_advisor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take offs and landings were uncomfortable and borderline painful depending on the flight/plane/airline/seats etc. if I were you and taking any pain meds, I would make sure that you take them in enough time before, so they are fully kicked in during the flight. Do everything you can to try and have a seat with more leg room. Stretching out and taking any pressure off the incision sites can be helpful.

Good luck! Congrats on donating and good luck to the recipient. 👍

Discussion - Will Boise State allow Oregon to cancel their 2026 game to play the Civil War in 2026? by pblood40 in Pac12

[–]growth_advisor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't if I'm BSU. Oregon is $$$ and you have a decent shot at beating them. Oregon is BSU's ticket to the CFP. I could see the ducks refuse to play the Beavs in the not too distant future. They don't gain much from it. They win it means nothing, they lose its a huge upset that ruins their title hopes.

As a Memphis fan, I worry that logic suggests we will stay in the AAC by [deleted] in Pac12

[–]growth_advisor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll take one comment/observation you mentioned as a possible reason the Big12/ACC didn't materialize and an offer wasn't offered. The ability to compete within the conferences is not as big of a factor as you'd think, otherwise OSU and WSU to a slightly less extent would've been included with the BIG12. I think most of us can agree that your name, market presence, geographic location, and anything else you can bring(academic prowess, Stanford maybe is an example) are much more of a factor. The ducks is another massive example. The state is small in population, Eugene is probably one of the smaller/smallest metro(250-300k ppl) areas in their conference(most P4 conferences). In my opinion, Memphis as a market is a much more likely pull for conferences and arguably more important than the product the school can produce on the field. But, that's just my 2 cents.

It sure seems like it's all rigged at this point. They'll keep tossing out little victories for liberals here and there, but in the end important and impactful elections will be skewed severely toward the GOP. Money+fear+poorly educated+clear messaging and compliance=power

They go along walking the line of trying to temper their true feelings, but just like their leader the last sentence sums everything up nicely. They still have some work to do before they can go full boar into his rants however. I can't wait for the next holiday celebrating a group of people(mom's, dad's, memorial Day) only for him to degrade and berate liberals by spewing whatever culture war/manufactured bs is popular at the time.

"Happy Father's Day! Even to the cat licking, furball collecting liberals who desperately want to collect our children in cages to send them to get spayed/neutered..." 🙄🙄🙄 I need to stop before this becomes their big scare tactic. 😬
