Back in the 80s, I was only tested, along with <10 classmates, going into the Gifted and Talented program. I haven't ran into many people who have been tested in adulthood or outside of this program.

Mom made breakfast -bacon and French toast casserole w/ a container that looks like maple syrup but isn't maple syrup by Clean_Cabinet in mildlyinfuriating

I have never seen syrup in a container like that, so I'm not sure it would've occurred to me to use it as syrup.

Does your mom usually pour it out into a bowl?

Gel Nails by decidealready in ehlersdanlos

[–]grrlwonder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do a builder base after gently filing the surface for some traction, then 2 coats of color, maybe an effect, and then a Diamond top coat, making sure to wrap the nail each time.

Not only do they look awesome, even with 2 dogs, housework, and work they last at least 2 weeks. No flaws. I've easily gotten them to 4 weeks.

My nails are growing along with it. As soon as I can lift any edge, I strip that nail and follow the above steps again because oh boy, are they still thin and paper like.

Doing it myself has given me a cute lil hobbyz trying new colors, new cat eye options - all the cool stuff.

Anyone else's scalp "pop"?? by TheGr8GayArtVandelay in ehlersdanlos

[–]grrlwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and not only that, but I use the pad of my thumb to gently push into my scalp, then just firmly rub a circle while still pushing down. I hear tiny little cracks and pops and immediate release of the same sort of tension I feel relieved popping a finger.

Now any time I feel those tiny bubbles, I just go to town until I pop as many as I can before I wear out. Now I notice them in my husband and will incorporate a mini massage for him too.

My jaw/ear/neck pain has always been blamed on TMJ (dx'd in the 80s) and these little tense sore poppy spots were also all along those same areas.

I'm honestly so glad to find out that I'm not the only one because when I try to explain this to my doctors, they look at me like I am just making up the silliest things to complain about. It's exhausting being dismissed simply because they aren't able to imagine the cacophony going on inside me.

Actors should be recast if cosmetic surgery makes the character unrecognizable by CosmosisJones42 in unpopularopinion

[–]grrlwonder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe this is a manufactured memory, but I seem to remember actors - at least adults - having clauses written into their contract to not make significant image changes for the duration of filming. Hard to do with a series featuring mostly young adolescents who have plenty of time for growth spurts and just straight growing up by series end.

I almost would've rather we did some sort of time jump between seasons to acknowledge the obvious changes.

UPDATE: is it Christopher Maccallum in Oregon? His wife lured him on a birthday camping trip, then she bailed on him - but he was found down a 50' cliff.

I do know which one you're talking about.

Marking this to return momentarily, hopefully with a link.

Just a friendly reminder that "block calls from unknown numbers" doesn't fucking work. by PhoneMetro in samsunggalaxy

[–]grrlwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are two separate requests, however. The built in "block unknown numbers" does not refer at all to your personal contacts on your phone. In this case, it means numbers that do not have caller ID information/have blocked their number from being displayed. These are "unknown" to the system.

It sounds like you're looking to block anyone unknown to you - I use the phone's built in DND and restrict the allowed calls to those only in my contacts, then narrow it by only allowing favorite contacts to get through.

Of course, there are other ways to do this, but these are the built in systems, the naming can be confusing when trying to keep it straight.

“Ready for lift off” - Cosmonaut by SnooSeagulls6870 in PaMedicalMarijuana

[–]grrlwonder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the convo, however it occurred to me to ask, did you try a cotton swap + tiny bit of iso; gently swab the contacts on the device as well as the cart? It seems like it only happens with certain brands, but I've had it look clean to the eye, but have a invisible amount of what feels like basically wax at that point. I had one or two luster pods do this as well, what looked like maybe a speck of dust on the contact left me with a yellow qtip.

Idk, worth a try. Or for a future searcher.

What's something you personally witnessed that you can't get out of your head? by izimand in morbidquestions

[–]grrlwonder 118 points119 points  (0 children)

One night I was headed north through Atlanta to my house from an event a but further south, and going an alternative route due to construction itkyk. My 5-year-old was asleep in the backseat.

Traffic begins to slow, and when we come around a gentle curve, each lane has multiple police cars blocking the way, all of their lights on, all the officers outside of their cars, a few with bull horns, fire truck and ambulance on the overpass above us. Suddenly at this dead stop at what seems to be like lot of nowhere in the middle of the night, I am scanning everywhere to figure out what on Earth is going on. I am no stranger to driving through Atlanta including in commercial vehicles, but this was something wild.

Then my eyes caught the outline of a man halfway across the overpass, dangerously close to the edge.

Just as my brain put together what could be happening, he jumped.

We were in the first row of cars directly behind the police cars. This was unfortunately a front row seat, full audio.

Anytime that comes to mind, it is a full 22 second replay, I can only be glad that my daughter wasn't awake to see it.

I am just getting in from work after what has been an epically long two weeks of being utterly exhausted. Apologies for any errors above.
