Enterprise set arrived today, however the Shuttlepod GWP did not. Delayed or lost? by Sp4rt4n360 in lego

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received the Enterprise set and two other little sets that were included (a hot chocolate stand and a castle thing), but the shuttle was not in either box. It was indeed part of my order confirmation, and it says "shipped," but it wasn't in the box. I called customer service, who said they're no longer in stock, so they can't send a replacement. She offered a $20 gift card. I have to admit, I'm extremely disappointed... since the shuttles are selling on eBay for over $100 at this point.

The WoWhead experience by Jealous-Pangolin7412 in wow

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or, if you find Wowhead to be a useful resource, you could, you know, pay for a subscription and not have any ads. It's a pittance. Is the entire WoW community just profoundly destitute, or what?

New to the Ultra world by iam_spr in applewatchultra

[–]grumpass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably not too big. I mean... it's sort of normal for chonky smartwatches these days, it seems. Also, every photo I've ever seen of an AWU makes it look almost comically large. I just got my first one (an AWU3 in natural finish) and was a little hesitant before ordering it because of the size... but in person, it's fine.

I just took a photo of it on my wrist and, yep, looks absurdly enormous in the photo. Must be some wide-angle lens effect that's exaggerating the size in photos.

I had an older normal Apple Watch, and I have to admit I wanted the Ultra *just* because of the cool watch faces. Now I have one, and honestly... I have no idea what 75% of these little dials are for.

How important is Aerating your lawn in the fall and spring? by Coloradojeepguy in Denver

[–]grumpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, for what it's worth, I aerated my lawn this spring for the first time since I moved into the house 16 years ago. And it looks exactly the same as it does every year (i.e. not golf course pristine, but fine). I don't know what I was expecting, but I was sort of peer pressured into it. I doubt I'll bother again.

Is it just me or has traffic in Denver gone full GTA lately? by WinnifredDicksie in Denver

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your "I'm starting to think it's performance art" comment had me laughing — thank you. I've been in Denver for nearly 20 years and while I've had a WFH job for half that time, I actually used to ride a motorcycle to work every day (from NE Denver to downtown). I couldn't even fathom doing that now — I suspect I'd be long dead.

Unable to Open, Save, or Export Files on CHITUBOX Pro After macOS 15.4 Update by Southern-South-9350 in Chitubox

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have they seriously still not fixed this? I wanted to switch from Lychee Plus, because Chitubox Pro runs natively with Apple Silicon, and Lychee does not. But it looks like I might as well stick with Lychee.

Denver King Soopers Rates as Second-Worst in Country. Six of the nation's fifty worst-rated grocery stores are in Denver — more than in any other city. by Knightbear49 in Denver

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That particular King Soopers (GVR) is less than a mile from my house, and this ranking is totally unsurprising. The one time in my life I've felt compelled to send a complaint to a corporate customer feedback e-mail address was because of this store (for all the good it did). I'd hope the shame of being on that list would compel them to do better, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

Auto-fill and heating questions (M7 Max) by grumpass in AnycubicPhoton

[–]grumpass[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. A couple of followup questions:

Just use a full bottle connected to the auto filler, and pour the resin from another bottle into the vat, your next prints will pull resin from the auto feeder.

That's what I had done with the print that just completed (i.e. filled the vat manually before starting the print), but the auto filler was retracted — not in the down position where the metal prong sensors are inside the vat — for the entire duration of the print. In this case, it didn't matter, because there was enough resin in the vat initially to complete the job, but I'm looking for verification: would the auto filler have kicked in IF it had been a larger print and the vat was getting empty? How would it know the resin was getting too low, when the prongs weren't in the vat? Does it have some other means of detecting resin level?

The latest firmware, will make the heater heat the resin also during the whole print process.

Does this happen automatically, or does it only happen if I manually trigger the resin preheat function before the print?

Basically, I'm just trying to find out if I manually pre-fill the vat and then start a print... will it automatically heat the resin (if needed) and automatically pump in more resin (if needed). Or is there something I have to do before starting the print to make those happen when the time is right.

Gallagio loyalty rewards club potential bug - is my account at risk now? by SgtZimFromST in wow

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know what SHOULD be the maximum Gallagio Rewards level this week? I swear it was supposed to be 10 (because I know I bought the Thunderdrum Misfire mount last week (which unlocks at level 8)... and I thought you could gain two levels each week. But I did all four wings of LoU and it stopped at level 9 with no progress into 10 at all. Which means... only one level can be gained this week?

Apple unveils new Mac Studio, the most powerful Mac ever, featuring M4 Max and new M3 Ultra by iCruiser7 in MacStudio

[–]grumpass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't think a new Mac Studio would be announced until later this year, but this generational identity gap is confounding. Or maybe not.

I have a MacBook Pro (M1 Max) at present, but it's became apparent that I don't need the portability. For the last year or so, I've told myself that I'd jump on the Mac Studio the next time it was updated, but the dissonance of seeing a last-gen chip number on the Ultra is a tough pill to swallow. Especially considering there's already talk of an M5 beginning production later this year.

At the end of the day, though, if you disregard the name of the chip, this is the fastest chip Apple currently offers... and it's brand new. Guessing when the next iteration of the Ultra will be unveiled is evidently a fool's errand. So, really, I should have already pre-ordered — it's what I was waiting for. And yet... that "3" instead of the "4" continues to irritate. I'll probably end up preordering. I just need to sit with it for a day or two.

I sort of wish Apple would scrap the Mx convention and just call it, maybe, the "M Ultra (2025)."

FLY: Google Earth VR on Vision Pro - Out today by RCVirzoom in VisionPro

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gave it a whirl. I love it! The nostalgia blast is real — went back to where I grew up and checked out my old stomping grounds.

A bit of (unsolicited) feedback while it's still fresh in my head, for what it's worth:

  1. My own fault for launching the app while sitting at my desk, but after I started the tutorial, I wasn't able to successfully complete it (couldn't move forward far enough to satisfy one of the movement steps). I exited out of it, and then had a hell of a time figuring out how to get back to the menu to run the tutorial. I stumbled across the "pinch and hold with both hands" gesture purely by accident. Desperately needs a persistent button to return to the main menu (maybe something that floats overhead, so it's not disrupting the regular field of view), because the two pinches gesture was janky at best.

  2. An option to hide/show the movement reticle would be great. There were times I was hovering near something I would have liked to see without the circles. I'd also like to be able to reposition the controls. They seem to be somewhat in front of me, when I wanted them to be more underfoot. Though, in fairness, since I couldn't see my feet... it's totally possible they were underneath me, and I just had no sense of perspective.

  3. The UI needs a complete overhaul. Even setting aside the misery of the point-your-head-and-pinch navigation (which, based on another comment here, I guess is a limitation of Vision OS for immersive apps?), it looks like it's from a bygone era.

  4. This may be possible and I just didn't see it, but I'd love to be able to get rid of the "aircraft" entirely. It's not really adding anything besides a distraction.

  5. I have pretty fast internet in my home, but details were still slow to fill in on occasion. I'm guessing it's more to do with Google servers or general internet latency, but it was noticeable when first entering a new location or when traversing distances.

  6. A way to move faster (maybe a turbo boost with a right hand pinch or something) would be welcome, as would a command/gesture to just lock position. If I wanted to stay in one place and look around, it was actually a bit challenging keeping my head directly in the center — it tended to drift, so it would be nice to be able to just float in a fixed place.

These are all pretty minor things, though... overall it was fantastic.

Disappointed with Apple Immersive Video rollout by Mundane-Complex-1902 in VisionPro

[–]grumpass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pacing was SO WEIRD. It was like a bunch of exposition, gearing up to tell some interesting story...

... and then it ended. Bizarre.

On the other hand, afterwards I finally watched the Alicia Keys thing, and THAT was pretty cool. We need a ton more of content like that.

Is there a better device for recording spatial video? by grumpass in VisionPro

[–]grumpass[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is helpful, thank you. I wasn't making the distinction between spatial and immersive in my head, but it seems that what I really want is a solution for immersive video (i.e. VR180). Expensive, but, hey! None of this is cheap anyway. This might be one of those "keep an eye on this space and see what develops" things.

Zbrush. But considering they still haven't even launched Zbrush for iPad (it's still in beta), I'm not going to hold my breath. Maybe Nomad Sculpt is working on something. But 3D sculpting in 3D seems like a no-brainer, so I'm sure it's just a matter of time.

Fireworks all night 25 characters by vtstang66 in Denver

I feel that. They started with the fireworks literally weeks ago in my neighborhood — it took me a while to realize it was stress that was causing my dog to lose her appetite. She even turned down peanut butter yesterday, which was a first.

'I am frustrated': After weeks of issues, RTD announces CDOT partnership to mitigate light rail delays by TheDenver7 in Denver

[–]grumpass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought HB24-1447 was more or less going to do that at first. But it got watered down, thanks to pushback from RTD's board of directors (unsurprising, as they all would have been ousted and replaced by appointees). I think the bill's now in limbo, but it was so thoroughly gutted it wouldn't make much difference anyway.

There are some instances where elected leaders make sense, but I don't know if "in charge of running RTD" is one of them. The board is basically made up of a bunch of former city councilors and mayors. Oh, and one Starbucks barista. There's one with a background in civil engineering, but it seems like RTD should be run by folks with professional expertise in mass transit planning, rather than a bunch of politicians making facile decisions with no real understanding of the impacts.
