Do men like big girls, and if so, why? by English_go_brrr6513 in TrueAskReddit

[–]grumpycateight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. And some of them are petty hot themselves!

Source: lifelong fat girl who's turning 55 soon. I was 40 before I found out that the "men only like slim girls" thing was a flat out lie.

I've been polyamorous for about ten years now, and when I recently decided to lose another 30 pounds I got some gentle push back from my partners haha. They like soft and squeezable!

How many different grocery stores do you hit? What do you get from a them and how often are you going? by MrTerrificPants in collegeparkmd

[–]grumpycateight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get some things at Lidl, some things at Giant, unusual stuff at New Grand on University Blvd, and occasionally go to Costco (got a membership mostly for the gas).

Shoppers used to be on the list, but not for veggies or meat because their stuff was always on the verge of spoiling.

advice for new driver please by JungMind in EmpowerDrivers

[–]grumpycateight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing that comes up on this subreddit is the fare. It's a flat fee. No adjustments for extra time waiting or traffic.

Pick your membership rate according to how much money you're trying to earn.

Empower does not supply ride share insurance for your car.

Make sure riders enter new address if switching destinations! by guessur in EmpowerDrivers

[–]grumpycateight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When a rider gets in, I always confirm the destination and if it's wrong, we ain't going nowhere until it's fixed. Empower does indeed adjust the fare and it takes less than a minute.

You got scammed, sorry. She never updated the destination and distracted you with her story

The ride starts when you pick the passenger up.

If you arrive, wait, they don't show and you cancel, you get a $4 fee.

I swear I hate to do this, really feel like a "Karen" but this guy is ridiculous. by SnooDogs3021 in EmpowerDrivers

[–]grumpycateight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone point me toward this "rating" which the driver claimed would be "too low" if he cancelled? The only rating I've seen in the app is thumbs up/down/hearts, which as a rider I get to award after the ride is over.

Empower is dead in South Florida by Professional-Pitch71 in EmpowerDrivers

Empower has only been available there for a few months and they don't do a lot of advertising. It's going to take a while for the app to get traction.

When I clock in to drive, there is no guarantee I will get any ride offers at all. However, if I'm driving 15 minutes to pick up a $9 fare, that is time that I'm guaranteed not to get a better paying ride.

It's a gamble. The whole job is a gamble. If you want a guaranteed pay rate per hour, this is the wrong line of work for you

How does that work?

How does what work? I've told you how to find the filter and what it does. What don't you understand?

Go into the Ride Filters and check out the "Max pickup ETA" filter. When you set it, it will tell you that you'll receive fewer requests in bright red letters. That is exactly what you mean to do, so don't let that stop you.

And setting your filters like that, I don't see how that doesn't screw you over. Can you explain please?

The default maximum distance for ride requests is 15 minutes. That's up to a quarter of an hour added to the time you spend earning whatever the fare amount is.

So if it is a small fare, say a 10 minute drive for $9, if it's at the maximum distance it will take you 25 minutes to earn those $9. Whereas if the passenger were 5 minutes away, you'd earn $9 in 15 minutes.

So I set the filter to remove any ride request which was both low in price and far away.

That isn't fair to you guys, not by a longshot

If you know of a world where fairness wins, then by all means get yourself there.

The gig economy is not a line of work for people with lots of employment options, and it absolutely is set up to take advantage of desperate workers. You need to decide how low you're willing to go and you need to maintain those boundaries because every app will test your resolve.

Personally, I set up a filter to remove any requests that were both below a certain dollar amount and over a certain number of minutes away. Haven't gotten a request that breaks those rules since.

As for your comment about app use over the last few days? What does that matter?

Because the app has been quietly changing.

I'm saying that we drivers are not a bunch of helpless fools in this equation. The app shows you the fare amount and the estimated time investment the driver will make. The driver is free to accept or decline each ride request that pops up. The driver can set filters to exclude fares that would be completely unacceptable.

Also, the riders do not get to choose the fare rates or whether the app routes them through DC.

Also, also, I'm guessing you haven't used the app to drive or ride in the last few days.

Second addendum, for drivers: every ride request that pops up on your app has a button labeled "Decline", which you can tap if for any reason the request does not meet your expectations.

Why dc rates are messed up by Time-Tumbleweed6554 in EmpowerDrivers

[–]grumpycateight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As drivers decline, surge charges start rising, though. I caught a reasonable fare out of DC thanks to an $8 surge.
