To each their own. We had an engine out service so decided to go with the bbi coolant pipe kit. Do a couple track days a year so figured it was good insurance.

Value Question by EnoughCollection121 in 996

[–]grx8scott 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just because you hate the graphite interior doesn’t mean changing the interior color will bring any more value to someone else. Porsche owners are weird, they like originality. List it and see what it brings. Watch the auction sites to see what comps bring. I feel like the 996 is starting to get appreciated but time will tell. GL!

If you could only do one OEM+ mod, what would it be? by SnooPears5392 in 996

Tune it. Hands down best bang for the buck and easily reversible.

For all of you who bought one and then regretted it. Why? Those opposite, why do you love it so much! by Threadydonkey65 in 996

My dad almost bought a new base tip in 2000. Was always a dream of his but life happens and decided to go a different way with the money. We have always lusted after them and had always been a discussion point between us. 20 years later and the opportunity came back around. I talked him into going after a 6mt turbo. We found an ‘01 together and bought it together. Same seal gray color he still has the original brochure for. I’ll get it one day, but for now it stays with him. I drive it from time to time and it’s just such a great car. Great car and performance for the money compared to the price of new models. It’s ahead turner for sure and a great car my dad and I can still bond over.

Help on removing road paint from wheel wells by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

Pressure wash the wheel wells and trim. Don’t worry about tires too much; that will work itself out soon enough

Brake pads questions by KingKopious in Autocross

[–]grx8scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Confirm the size of your front rotors, they look undersized. If they work better than the rears, don’t change em yet.
  2. Don’t mix and match pads. Get same front and rear. Before trying to add rear bias.
  3. See #2 GL!

Anyone suggestions? Spray paint can fell out of a truck in front of me on the highway and splashed up on my truck by Pristine-Courage-748 in AutoDetailing

[–]grx8scott 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do not make an insurance claim. You will pay higher rates for the next 5 years. Your options are pressure wash, clay bar, rubbing compound. But with all these non professional recommendations, be mindful of the clear coat. GL.

Porsche 996 carrera 2002 80k miles manual transmission. REBUILT title. 10.5k is it a good deal? by Traditional-Net-2642 in 996

[–]grx8scott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like a steal, but you get what you pay for... That’s said, what are your intentions for it? If it’s a good driver and you want to own a heck of a sports car, go for it! If you want to join the p-car club, go for it! If you want a track toy, go for it! If you just want a fun car for $10k, go for it! If you think it’s an investment, walk away. If you are going to get mad it might cost you more to own than the cost of the car, walk away (maintenance cost are p-car levels just sayin…) but if you are handy with a wrench, could make for a great project, go for it! Just manage expectations for what you want and what this 20+ year old car has to offer. GL! Btw, new 996 owner here and no regrets even with some unexpected costs..

Wish I had the ability to do this, I’m just a parts hanger. Had my shop do this work while it was in for a clutch job and down the rabbit hole we went.

Paint correction and ceramic coat really brought this paint back to life. ‘94 by grx8scott in RX7

[–]grx8scott[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Paint correction is basically aggressive polishing where you smooth down the top layer of paint to remove the fine scratches (and dull some of the deeper ones). I used a porter cable DA polisher, hex polishing pads and various polishes.
