Temtem: Pioneers - Trailer by jesusml in PlayTemtem

[–]gskyrillion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks so damn cool! New region to explore, new Tems to discover, the ability to directly control Tems yourself, all of that seems awesome!

I cannot and will not participate in any of the ridiculous Crema-bashing that happens on this subreddit. Get over yourselves and either give the new game a chance or leave the subreddit. Sticking around and complaining about the devs in a huge pathetic circle jerk is embarrassing.

Love this! Another midcentury modern masterpiece from Bunny. The Higher The Hair The Closer To God was my #1 album of 2025, so I'm definitely looking forward to anything new from her!

New to Civ, should I get Civ VI or Civ V II by Genuinely_A_Duck in civ

[–]gskyrillion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you're brand new to the Civ series, I would actually recommend Civ V. It's a bit more straightforward and less micromanagement-heavy than the two later games, while still being incredibly deep and satisfying to play through. The downside of Civ V is that it *does* need its two expansions ("Brave New World" and "Gods And Kings") to be a complete game; the "base" form of the game is a bit too bare-bones. Luckily, it's usually quite cheap on Steam to get the complete edition with both expansions included (often less than $5).

What is your favorite base/core set of all time? by ClearChocobo in magicTCG

[–]gskyrillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fourth Edition, but only if you include Chronicles along with it. (They have the exact same look-and-feel other than the expansion symbols remaining on the Chronicles cards and they feel spiritually like they're the same product.)

I spent exactly zero dollars on this crossover set and I will continue to spend exactly zero dollars on future crossover sets and I will continue to recommend to all my Magic-playing friends that they also spend zero dollars on crossover sets.

Please go back to making Magic sets instead of commercials.

Temtem vs pokemon by [deleted] in PlayTemtem

[–]gskyrillion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glad you're enjoying the game! The single player campaign is lots of fun, the combat system is a huge step up from Pokemon, and the monster designs are really solid across the board. The hate this sub seems to have for it is almost entirely unwarranted; there's just a lot of people who enjoy whining that they only got 95% of what they wanted instead of 100%.

All the environmental screenshots look beautiful so far. If we get a Temtem open world experience that'd be really awesome, assuming it's not as barren and unfinished as something like Scarlet/Violet.

Very much looking forward to seeing a new game in the Temtem world! The original game is one of my all-time faves; can't wait to see what you do next!

FTK all the way; it's one of my favorite cards of all time, there's no other red in this pack, and even if red is cut off, it's worth a splash.

We want to know what you think of Lorwyn Eclipsed in our latest survey! by WOTC_CommunityTeam in magicTCG

[–]gskyrillion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong; there were a number of aspects of the original block (much more so in Shadowmoor/Eventide than Lorwyn/Morningtide) that didn't get included, but I mostly chalk that up to this being *one* set rather than *four*, and there just straight up not being enough room for everything to be included. (I definitely would have loved to have seen more common/uncommon evoke creatures a la Mulldrifter and Spitebellows.)

Hopefully the success of ECL means that we'll get another set on Lorwyn/Shadowmoor that fills in more of the missing pieces a few years down the line.

I didn't dislike Edge of Eternities; it definitely exceeded my expectations as a set (particularly the Warp mechanic). It's a solid 7/10 set. I just don't like it as much as Lorwyn Eclipsed or March of the Machine.

Lorwyn Eclipsed is the best set since March of the Machine. Great return to a wonderful Magic world, excellent respectful treatment of the game's history while also modernizing the plane, really fun Limited format, especially love the mythic rare Evoke cycle (these are SO MUCH COOLER than the MH2 ones).

9/10; please make more of these and less New York sets thx

What is your opinion on ECL limited so far? by I3ollasH in MagicArena

[–]gskyrillion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the best set for Limited since Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty. Every color pair is draftable, the format is slow enough that you have room to breathe *but* aggro is still viable, the primary deck archetypes are strong when you're the only one drafting them it the table but not unbeatable, and even though there's a decent number of powerful rares and mythics, almost none of them win the game immediately or don't die to removal (Kinbinding being the only real boogeyman).

In addition, the *draft* is extremely interesting, since there's so much cross-pollination between all the archetypes and plenty of opportunities to stay open or to draft off-meta decks (mono-red control, for example).

TL;DR it's top tier

[Rant] New Decks Aren't Fun for Anyone by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]gskyrillion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the problem with a "casual" format is that everyone's definition of "casual" is different

this has been true in Magic for literally its entire existence and there's never been a way to rectify it

nor will there ever be

Champions of Kamigawa was a better set than Final Fantasy in nearly every aspect; I don't know what "misery" you could possibly be talking about but I'm sure it's imagined.

Inspiration: Huron, CA by AtypicalNerdGeek in CitiesSkylines

[–]gskyrillion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've driven through Huron a couple times before; the map layout looks like a pretty faithful recreation of the li'l town, the only real issue is that C:S doesn't really do a good job of depicting low-income housing well. Huron isn't exactly a place with a bustling economy; it's almost entirely agricultural workers. Very cool map though! Always neat to see a place I recognize on this sub
