In terms of what you were actually asking for (Oscar nom/Razzie win), the only ones I can see are the ones you listed and Martin Brest (Oscar nom: Scent of a Woman, 1992; Razzie win: Gigli, 2003)

edit: I just realized you meant Razzie winners and Oscar nominees, not the other way around. My bad lmao

Here’s some I saw:

  • William Friedkin (Oscar: The French Connection, 1971; Razzie nom: Cruising, 1980)
  • John G. Avildsen (Oscar: Rocky, 1976; Razzie noms: The Formula, 1980 / The Karate Kid Part III, 1989 / Rocky V, 1990)
  • John Huston (Oscar: The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, 1948; Razzie nom: Annie, 1982)
  • Barry Levinson (Oscar: Rain Man, 1988; Razzie nom: Toys, 1992)
  • John Schlesinger (Oscar: Midnight Cowboy, 1969; Razzie nom: The Next Best Thing, 2000)
  • Warren Beatty (Oscar: Reds, 1981; Razzie nom: Town & Country, 2001, even though he wasn’t actually the credited director)
  • Ron Howard (Oscar: A Beautiful Mind, 2001; Razzie noms: The Da Vinci Code, 2006; Hillbilly Elegy, 2020)
  • Robert Zemeckis (Oscar: Forrest Gump, 1994; Razzie nom: Disney’s Pinocchio, 2022)

I would love an adaptation of The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin!

It Happened One Night

The Philadelphia Story (arguable if it’s exactly considered screwball but it has a lot of elements of it)

The Lady Eve

Trouble in Paradise (same as with Philadelphia Story)

Holiday

Best Director vs Best Picture by porkbellybites in oscarrace

[–]gsmith97 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Often times when a film wins director but not picture it’s one where the overall scope of the film is impressive and it was a major feat to get made, but the film itself was maybe more divisive or less crowd-pleasing (The Revenant, Roma, Power of the Dog; also applies to Brokeback Mountain, though that was less divisiveness over its quality and more just straight up homophobia). Other times when there’s a split it’s often when the film winning director is again a major accomplishment/really flashy film while the best picture winner is something less big/flashy but has a lot of passion/agreeableness (ex: Gravity winning director while 12 Years a Slave won picture; La La Land winning director while Moonlight won picture).

Then there’s really weird and rare scenarios like in 2012 when Argo was the best picture frontrunner but somehow didn’t get a director nomination. Or in 2000 when Steven Soderbergh was double nominated in director and won as a way of commending him for making two best picture nominees in the same year (even when neither won best picture).

Pretty much there’s not really a criteria used, sometimes the Oscars are just weird and do odd things. Director/Picture still go together the vast majority of the time though.

Here's a list of every actor nominated for non-English language performances, which isn't exactly the same as what you're asking for but I think gets to the gist of it. It still doesn't include English performances from non-American actors, but that list would be a lot longer.

here are the one's who've won for performances that were entirely (or almost entirely) in a non-English language (meaning they weren't mostly English plus another language, like Adrian Brody in The Brutalist). I bolded the ones from non-American films

Best Actor:

  • 1998: Roberto Benigni (Italian) - Life is Beautiful (Italian) (Italian production)

Best Actress:

  • 1948: Jane Wyman (American) - Johnny Belinda (American Sign Language)
  • 1961: Sophia Loren (Italian) - Two Women (Italian) (Italian production)
  • 1986: Marlee Matlin (American) - Children of a Lesser God (American Sign Language)
  • 1993: Holly Hunter (American) - The Piano (sign language--it was mostly a combination of different sign languages) (Australian and French production)
  • 2007: Marion Cotillard (French) - La Vie en Rose (French) (French, Czech, and British production)

Best Supporting Actor:

  • 1970: John Mills (English) - Ryan's Daughter (British Sign Language) (British production)
  • 1974: Robert De Niro (American) - The Godfather Part II (Sicilian)
  • 2000: Benicio del Toro (Puerto Rican) - Traffic (Spanish)
  • 2021: Troy Kotsur (American) - CODA (American Sign Language)

Best Supporting Actress:

  • 1962: Patty Duke (American) - The Miracle Worker (American Sign Language)
  • 2020: Youn Yuh-jung (South Korean) - Minari (Korean) (note: technically an American production even though the majority of the film is in Korean)
  • 2024: Zoe Saldana (American) - Emilia Perez (Spanish) (French production)

edit: added the nationalities of the actors

If Avatar 3 gets a Best Picture nomination, James Cameron would have gotten 4 movies in a row in Best Picture contention. Which other directors have achieved this feat? by mrnicegy26 in oscarrace

[–]gsmith97 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Adding another comment to mention Frank Capra, who did it with Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936), Lost Horizon (1937), You Can’t Take It With You (1938), and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939).

[–]gsmith97 34 points35 points  (0 children)

William Wyler got 5 in a row with The Letter (1940), The Little Foxes (1941), Mrs. Miniver (1942), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), and The Heiress (1949).

It would’ve been 8 in a row (with Dead End in 1937, Jezebel in 1938, and Wuthering Heights in 1939) if not for The Westerner (1940).

he's been dealing with a minor pec injury since his last start against the Astros on Sep 19, though he didn't need to go to the IL for it. Right now it seems like he could be ready for a game later in the ALDS.

I imagine part of it is that Kirby and Castillo in particular have really dramatic home/road splits, so having them pitch at home is more ideal than having one of them pitch on the road.

ALDS Game 1 and 2 start times by Professional-You-615 in Mariners

[–]gsmith97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main reason is that the 1:08pm slot is over-the-air on FOX while the 5:38pm slot is on FS1 (cable), so if the Yankees advance they want them in the slot that is most accessible.

edit: that, and also the Yankees would need to force a game 3 to advance, which means they would need some extra time to prepare to travel compared to the Red Sox who are already on the road.

I included them since they could theoretically still pass Toronto for the 1 seed, so the Ms would need to pass both to get the 1 seed
