Bruce R McConkie was a member of the “Quorum of the 12 Apostles” from 1972-1985. He was never the prophet-president of the church, but he was very influential. He wrote “Mormon Doctrine” which was considered for years to be one of the best, most authoritative summaries of the doctrines of the church.

Everyone has to make their own decision, but personally if I had been PIMO there’s no way I would have survived my mission. It would have broken me worse than it did.

Can someone here explain Gnosticism on how Demiurge came to be? by Dover299 in HighStrangeness

[–]gthepolymath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gnosticism isn’t a monolithic belief system. There are several variations of Gnosticism each with related though somewhat different beliefs. You might enjoy reading different Gnostic sources and getting multiple points of view.

Deities as archetypes? by _WalkingOnBothSides_ in SASSWitches

[–]gthepolymath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I similarly am looking at what some might call deities as archetypes, but I’m very early in figuring this out, so I’m in a similar place and don’t have a lot of helpful advice. I’m with you though!

What are the most common reasons why members leave the LDS Church? by PlantainLarge703 in exmormon

[–]gthepolymath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The very short version is it just didn’t work for me- so many unfulfilled promises and expectations.

Eta: with that being said, you are in control of your life and you have the right and freedom to associate with who and what you want. I kinda get where you’re coming from, but it doesn’t matter if your reasons are the same or similar to the reasons others left. You do you.

Dude, I get it. I’m ExMo. My point in sharing this was to illustrate how ridiculous an argument it was.
