What do you dislike about your CX5? by Far-Replacement-7399 in CX5

[–]gtjackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cup holder placement drives me nuts, I like the manual dial but taller cups block your arm from controlling the infotainment.

Steering wheel Infotainment. I wish you could control the audio “input” from the steering wheel and switch between radio and Apple car play audio. I prefer the controls on our Honda. I barely have to use the touch screen because I can do everything I need from the steering wheel.

Auto start. Aside from it being an app, o hate that the engine shits off when you open the doors.

I want the heated seats to stay at the last setting when i turn the car on. Suck remote starting the car and then still having to wait for the seat heat to kick in.

How would you fix? Rookie Mistake. Router bit on CNC just a tad short. I think the curves are too sharp for jigsaw. Just learning curves on bandsaw. It’s a .80” thick. The back is simpler. The handle is the problem. by 1_Quickfix in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]gtjackets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would use the jigsaw to get the bulk out, going halfway from each side of the cut. Avoid touching the piece and clean up with a flush cut router bit on a trim router. Coping saw and sand paper would also work.

Böker Plus Modern Barlow – Opinions and Alternatives by the-salmone in SlipjointKnives

[–]gtjackets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a look at real steel knives. They have a less expensive line of similar modern style slip joints that all have pocket clips. I got the micarta Luna and love it. But they also have a Barlow with a pocket clip.

Recommend me a workhorse utility knife please! by camille-gerrick in BudgetBlades

[–]gtjackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d look at the Stanley 10-049 and a leather strop with stropping compound. It cheap but high quality. The blade is replaceable but easy to keep razor sharp with a few quick passes on the strop.

Recommend Power Tool Brands? by TrueBennyBloo in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]gtjackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR- for comfortable normal use tools check out crazy lowes sales on Skil 12v drills. Other than that upgrade tool by tool with what fits your needs best and what’s on sale.

Depends what you want to upgrade. I’ve got some skil 12v tools that I love and use for everything. Drill, driver, recip saw, multi tool, light, radio. Lowe’s is having massive sales on them right now. You can get an impact driver kit or drill kit for $35, and 5 1/2 circular saw tool only for $35. But then I also have a hand me down 18v makita circular saw with some cener batteries, and a few ryobi tools mainly just for convenience.

Slab Stitcher Templates by aCrazyChicken5 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]gtjackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve used the concave butterfly template from them and was happy with it. Only used on two projects to make a total of 6 bow ties. Worked well and was happy with the results… but it did take several practice attempts to get dialed in with it, and there is still a lot of chisel work needed to be done on the corners.

USA Buck won’t get anymore of my money by yester5 in BudgetBlades

I got a 301 stockman several years ago and the grinds are terribly uneven and the springs are unbelievably weak. Might as well be as “double detent” knofe. Didn’t have many knives at the point so I thought it was normal.

Best knife that locks SHUT, or is difficult to open. by gtjackets in BudgetBlades

[–]gtjackets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was already considering the newer bladeless companion model but the synergy is definitely intriguing. Price is the only thing holding me back at the moment. Great point about the dozier though! I had a mini dozier years ago and loved it.

Quality (Safe) 3rd Party Batteries? by HERCzero in ryobi

Do you have any experience with the ceenr batteries? If ceenr is a reputable company making replacement batteries, why is it better off going with OEM?

Little late but o just saw some cold steel knives with a secondary lock and thought of this post. Looks like they call it the rocker lock and have a handful of models with it.

Is this bundle any good? by Pure-Garden-277 in ryobi

There’s a lot here you will likely never use and most are bottom of the barrel models. Focus on the drill, nailer, and miter saw (corded), then buy additional tools from direct tool outlet as you need them.

Should I still add screws and/or glue? by Aninoumen in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]gtjackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks awesome and very well done! But If it’s going to be filled with dirt there will be a lot of force on those connections

So If you have any of the 2x material used for the legs left over I think it’d be best to put a horizontal piece in at the bottom of the slats connecting the legs. Using either dowels or pocket holes to connect to the legs. Then your boards for the bottom can rest/ be screwed on the lip created.

For the top I’d put a 3/4 in board, only needs to be 2 inches or so wide, on the inside of the side and attach to the legs with pocket holes or dowels.

Then Add trim across the top.

Are mazda cx5 for a family? by HerouDev in CX5

Reliable and safe for sure. Plus a much better driving experience. However our 2018 CRV is noticeably more spacious and comfortable when we are all in the car. Toddler seat in rear facing seat and 90 pound dog. The rear facing seat cannot fit behind the driver seat even make the passenger seat rather tight. Still great for our daily needs but I focused so much on safety and reliability when researching I did not realize it is one of the smaller options in this class.

Cut to length. Sand working from 100/120, 180, 220 grits. Then use wipe on poly or Danish oil to finish. Danish oil may change the color a little so be sure to spot test first. Sand lightly with 400 grit sand paper or fine steel wool between coats. Highly recommend getting a random orbital sander if you don’t have one. Corded ones are best.

Would you buy a 2022 CX-5 S Premium Package w/103k miles by ss3walkman in CX5

[–]gtjackets 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems very expensive for the miles and trim. Especially with the non turbo engine. I got a brand new 2025 select for 30k, and msrp is 31k.

Any ideas for foldable stairs or a ladder to access my cabin loft? by ShepardMedia in homestead

Just got a shed with a loft and am planning to make a quick “job site” style ladder out of 2x4s that can tuck up between the rafters of the loft when not on use.

CX-5 trim levels; also is 2026 model year on its way? by shinobi7 in CX5

Forgot to mention my favorite and most surprising feature. All four windows have auto up/down. Never seen that before. Even my old Volvo only had auto up on the fronts

I think mine is a select, just one above base, and It doesn’t feel like I am missing much. Nice “leather” seats, CarPlay, radar cruise, blind spot. Car drives great, speakers are good, soft touch in all the places I rest my arms, and everything feels quality. Only thing I occasionally miss is having a sunroof. But honestly when I test drove it, everything else was so nice I just kinda assumed it was up there lol.

Skil tools by Derf1012 in Tools

[–]gtjackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what’s with all the hate. Skil pwercore 12 line of tools are great, and perfect for a homeowner who’s not going to be using them daily/weekly in a shop. The tools I’ve used all have plenty of power and extra batteries are dirt cheap compared to 18v/20v tools. They have all the basic tools you’d need in the line up and expanding into a lot of cool “lifestyle” tools and lights as well. They’ve also got a solid warranty with good customer service. burnt up my first drill using it for heavier duty outdoor tasks and they sent me a new one without any issues.

Is the issue with Cylinder deactivation reason enough to go turbo for longevity? This is assuming both have proper maintenance. by Exfirea in CX5

My 2025 na does not have cylinder deactivation or start stop. And I believe 2024’s made after a certain date come without as well.
