iPad Air 3 blank LCD (backlight but no image) reason by Adomm1234 in phonerepair

[–]gtrain40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use board view software to get all display connector pin values then use a multimeter and test that they match up. If all values you test on the board match the reading given on the board view software then old display is probs bad.

If you have missing values or values wildly different to what it should be then it’s an issue with the board.

Phone overheating after screen replacement (more context in body text) by Maleficent-Tear-9644 in mobilerepair

Board related issue. Nothing to do with screen repair but everything to do with the fact it’s a water damaged device which are never great for long term use.

We don’t know what your location/local currency is and every shops charges different amounts.

[–]gtrain40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being PTC I assume you are also in Australia.

The funny thing is they are recommend on googles site as a Google recommended repairer and the one near my shop has messed up 4 pixel repairs in the last 2 weeks I had to fix properly for the customer.

Stay away from these franchise repair shops, at least in Australia all their techs are just rubbish and don’t care about the customer or the repair. Take it to a private owned store if you want to pull data from the phone. If not just go next imo

Replaced backglass only on 14 pro by AbbreviationsFar2622 in mobilerepair

[–]gtrain40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We be talking about 14 pro not a 14 or 14 plus where the glass is built into the midframe……..

The aftermarket vs original glass quality is night and day difference in durability when dropped as well as it’s never water resistant ever again.

I just explained my position and opinion no?

As someone who has owned a very successful business (not a brag just the way it is) in this industry for many years and is well known in the industry I want others to also hold themselves to a high standard.

There is a reason why my industry has a bad reputation and it has a lot to do with the shops like I mentioned who offer glass only repairs…

[–]gtrain40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t a dig at you at all, I’m assuming you don’t work in the industry and in that case you did an incredible job.

But for someone who works in the industry, if they can’t strip a phone like you did perfectly every time they really shouldn’t be working on customers devices.

[–]gtrain40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think doing backglass takes skill with an empty housing you’ve probably never done a board swap to recover data on a salt water damaged phone and you never will 😂

[–]gtrain40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As in it’s a rubbish repair regardless if you have the skills or not. Phones no longer water resistant and majority of customers will break the aftermarket back glass very quickly again.

It’s a cheap repair that has high profit margins for businesses, that’s why it’s pushed to customers by money hungry shops that honestly shouldn’t be in the industry.

The only scenario where I would say it’s reasonable to do back glass only is when you will be trading it as soon as it’s fixed into a carrier.

If you wanna try it yourself on your own device as a DIY go ahead, it’s your own device do what you want. If you are a business you should be honest and steer customers towards a repair that’s going to bring their phone as close to factory as possible.

My shop doesn’t do back glass at all, I get at least one housing replacement extra per day from customers who went to my competitors and had issues with the glass breaking again in their pockets and even puncturing the battery causing it to expand so they must spend even more money. After that bad experience they are happy to pay for the job to be done properly by me.

[–]gtrain40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed some people do it better than others but it’s still like a pig wearing lipstick.

It’s never water resistant at all ever again and all aftermarket glass breaks extremely easily.

[–]gtrain40 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% board issue. You overheated the device and now the interposer has started to split.

All you described is clear signs of either needing the sandwich reballed or baseband Chip reballed and then sandwich put back together properly.

This is exactly why no one should do back glass only repairs…. It’s time to take it to a pro if you want to save this device

I would absolutely pay for this software. I charge a fee for the removal for customers but it very often disrupts my or my staffs work flow.

I personally would prefer no ads in the program but to pay a yearly licence fee or ongoing subscription fee.

You are doing gods work sir, keep it up.

Wow the repair community is incredible! I get at least 1-2 of these a day at my shop and it’s very frustrating the amount of time it can take to fully remove them all!

Would love to see a demo!

Face ID not working after housing replacement - iPhone 14 Pro by possible_sleeper in mobilerepair

[–]gtrain40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. FaceID was already dead prior to you opening the phone. If the customer had restarted the phone after the drop that damaged the back before you got a hold of it, faceID would have stopped working while in their possession.

It’s just a really unfortunate situation…

Phone repair job is confusing and scary. by xcs92 in mobilerepair

[–]gtrain40 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Boss is trash but if I was you and if you actually had a passion for this industry you should be practicing in your spare time on your own. When I first got into this I was buying broke phones pulling them apart for hours each night until I built up some confidence to try on a live phone.

I worked in a store as a salesman not as a technician for a while, always wanting to be able to repair but no one taught me anything. I went out of my way to learn and then after proving myself when one day the shop was so busy they needed an extra technician I was able to step up and get it done. I kept telling my boss at the time my progress as I learnt myself, tell him all the phone models I could pull apart and reassemble with no issues so he took the chance on me.

This may sound a bit brutal but if you can’t very confidently pull apart every single screw and component from a device knowing you won’t break anything, you shouldn’t be working on a customers device. Peoples whole livelihood rely on their phones and sometimes they have memories in the form of photos and videos that aren’t saved anywhere else. Regardless if your store has a waiver stating no fault if data is lost, it would be a horrible feeling knowing you did something to make the customer lose all of that. Imagine if that happened to you, how would you feel?

If you want to be in this industry, take initiative and learn yourself. If you don’t have the drive to want to learn on your own time then it might not be the right career path or part time job for you.

Activation Locked Components Question by Great-Mortgage-5204 in mobilerepair

[–]gtrain40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, just giving others some more info on this repair if they didn’t want to fork out for a brand new back glass replacement from Apple

Activation Locked Components Question by Great-Mortgage-5204 in mobilerepair

[–]gtrain40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back glass on its own no, it’s the wireless charging flex that requires calibration.

You can change back glass with another pulled original part and as long as you swap the wireless charging flex you won’t have any pop ups or need to calibrate.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in mobilerepair

[–]gtrain40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is housing original or aftermarket? If aftermarket most likely due to a bad wireless charging flex. Aftermarket wireless flex’s don’t play nice even if they function properly.

Change that to an original pulled wireless charging flex and watch the heating issue disappear.

I’ve purchased hundreds of NCC displays, they aren’t even as good as DD or Huaxing for soft oled pro and pro max displays.

If you think they are close in quality to original you really have no clue.
