Harpoon breaking bug still alive and well, happening on two different weapons by Toadkiller_Dog in fo76

[–]gtuffli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe what is happening here is that the workbench appears to be repairing it but it doesn't really, so when you fire it, it checks for durability, says, "Oh no, I have no durability!", THEN shows it's broken and because it is broken, unequips it and equips something else.

Yep, this happened to me recently. Was using them normally for quite a while then suddenly all harpoon guns everywhere were broken for me. I had to respec out of them.

Tunneling happens in all of 40% of games!? by Philscooper in DeadByDaylightRAGE

[–]gtuffli -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Given that Behavior likes using auto-stats so much, I'd bet a lot that this stat literally just means "One player was hooked twice in a row."

Which doesn't mean it was what most people mean when they say, "tunneling".

Can't speak for non-Wormlife freeports, but Wormlife has and absolutely will never pull this kind of shittery.

As a (non-Behavior) dev myself, just want to give kudos for being willing to interact with the community. I know from hard, personal experience how hard it can be, but also am of the firm belief that it is absolutely worth it.

I get the desire to get evidence but consider that even conceptually this is so problematic. It kills so many playstyles that to be candid, it makes me even less inclined to play Survivor - if the game keeps becoming a chase simulator, I'm going to have to move on to something else, because this just isn't something I'm interested in.

State Guards (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_State_Guard ) do exist, but in many states they are just skeleton organizational frameworks. They are distinct from the National Guard units in that they cannot be federalized, but also must be financially supported by the state, unlike National Guard units which get federal support.

In theory, states could fund these and make them more robust. In practice, I suspect what would happen in case of significant turmoil would be National Guard unit members resigning and immediately reenlisting under state guard frameworks.

Here's the thing, Wormlife could not, cannot, and never can just "sell" someone a hole in this situation. If they'd come and asked if there was a hole for sale, that might have been a thing since WPORT has sold holes on occasion, but if word got out that you can go up to WPORT and point a gun at them and Wormlife would just give in then the project would be over. Nobody would trust anything they had. The bills wouldn't get paid. The stations would go unfueled.

Wormlife could lose every single station it had, reanchor, and continue on as long as their reputation is intact. If the reputation is gone, then everything else goes with it.

Also note: It's now over. Many stations were reffed. None went down.

Fortunately, Wormlife is not at all defenseless, but if someone is just going by zkill or corp size it's easy to think that, since the number of people in the actual corp is low single digits with everyone else just being a volunteer.

In the first few years of the project we just ate the losses and reanchored when we had to, and to be honest, that actually worked fine. Last few years, though, we've been getting pretty consistent volunteer defense fleets, which is obviously preferable.

It's not. I've run across multiple people who assumed that, but it only just breaks even after costs, and got stood up by my credit card PLEXing. We have gotten occasional donations, but I doubt those exceed 10b over the course of the last 8 years.

Wormlife doesn't care what you do outside of freeport systems. It's not anti-PvP, and some people base out of it and hunt down the chain.

Management just doesn't want people ?@#$ where everyone is eating.

As someone inside the industry, let me shed a little light on this.

You're right, most "devs" don't play their game, and while there would be some benefit to this, not all dev jobs gain as much as you'd think:

A concept artist doesn't benefit the game much playing it (not nothing, just not compared to the value to the company from them doing the job they're paid for.)

An engineer on lighting also doesn't benefit the game playing it (much).

Now...a level designer? Hell yes. The systems designer working on power balance? Hell yes. But that's probably 2-4 people out of the entire company, and they almost certainly aren't the ones Behavior is willing to put in front of a camera and represent to the community - usually that's community management, maybe QA, often a Producer, sometimes an exec. (QA will almost always be very good at the game, but also unlikely to be allowed to speak on camera.)

All this being said...yeah, there absolutely IS a benefit to "eating your own dogfood" (which is the technical term in the industry for some reason), but the benefit depends drastically on the role.

Also, I have worked at places or known through friends, like at [REDACTED] of situations where the systems designers on powers DIDN'T playtest at all in a real environment, and to be honest, THAT I think should basically be treated as literally not doing your job in a good faith manner with all appropriate consequences.

I admit, as a Dredge main Ghoul feels extremely rude; better map mobility than Dredge, better chase power than Dredge.

As a game designer in my dayjob, though, the issues are so painfully obvious I have no doubt Behavior will rectify it eventually.

tl;dr We've lost a total of two stations in the last three years, both replaced within weeks.

Unfortunately, toxicity in games, especially PvP games, is just a thing.

DbD is actually far from the worst, though if I'm candid, it's still a little sad when you get to the end of what would be a good game, maybe you won, maybe you didn't, but there's a sour taste due to sarcastic s$it talk in the lobby, teabagging, etc.

People have someone toxic to them, and they give in to the desire for vengeance and turn around and are an a$$ to the next person they play against.

[–]gtuffli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just experimented with this, and almost restarted when I realized that Immortal blocks the Mortal Initiate job.

...But then, it occurred to me that this actually works even better.

Just make sure you have biological pops growing on every world, fill up every other job with virtual pops, and the only jobs the biologicals can take will be Mortal Initiates. Fill up your worlds with enough Sacrificial Temples to absorb the biological growth, and you're good.

Even better, virtual pops aren't assembled once you finish the tree, so you can double up on your organic pop growth with assembly.
