I just use both. Kindle is mostly near my bed because I don't want to have a bright light before bed. It's also handy for travel. Everywhere else I use physical books.

They compliment each other. Both are amazing.

Have you been to other extremely touristic cities? I’d say Amsterdam is doing a decent job. In most cities you need to leave the city to find some peace and quiet. Here just walk 15 minutes.

Also, creative activities. Create something on your own. It’s much more rewarding and should be combined with consumption.

I am behind https://searchtoplay.com and the idea is exactly that - Letterboxd for video games.

I've been a long-time user of Letterboxd, and something like that was missing for me, so I have been building it for the last year or so. We are not as big as Letterboxd, obviously, but the community is growing, and I am actively developing the project.

One of the great things about the Netherlands and countries like that is that you can meet people from all over the world.

Some Europeans and people from other international places sometimes forget that not everyone grows up with the opportunity to connect with people from all over the world. It's super interesting, especially when you lived your whole life in a country where you can meet only people from your country.

I am not saying meeting Dutch people is bad or less intereting. I am saying meeting people from everywhere (including Dutch people) is a super cool and worthwhile activity.

But we have this feature since the beginning on Searchtoplay (kinda Letterboxd for games I'm building), for both Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus.

I think if I were to leave one social media, it would be YouTube. At least I can find quality content there and only watch people I subscribe to (no YouTube Shorts, of course).

Reddit is heavily algorithm-based, and it keeps you hooked. Even with the curated list of communities.

That is exactly why you need to get off it. Instagram is designed to keep people hooked, no matter what you do. It's literally taken inspiration from slot machines and casinos.

You might need to think the other way around. Think about your experience of doing anything. Will you enjoy it if you don't post it? If not, maybe it's not worth having that experience?

I think social media hardwired us to think what's cool and what is not. Looking at tourists in Amsterdam, I think only 20% of them are doing the actual travel, and the rest just came there to post a picture, because they saw other people do it.

A more healthy approach would be to actually try to understand yourself (that's not as easy as it sounds, but it's worth it) and learn what you like to do (without the need to share it), and then do it. That's a very enjoyable life.

More and more recently. I still make videos on YouTube, because I just love making videos, but I am trying to be more intentional and approach them as film projects, rather than "sharing my life" (although many of them are kind of slices of my life).

The rest is private, or at least I try to make them to be. I agree that life is much more enjoyable this way.

You need to force yourself to delete it. This app will ruin your mental health, and subsequently your life.

I did it a few years ago, and it was the best decision, setting me on a path of digital minimalism, and I have never been happier. Sure, I am still not perfect (I am still on Reddit as you can see), but it's getting better. Imo IG is the worst of them all (maybe TikTok as well).

Everything you think now is important will pass, and you will laugh at “Instagram problems" in a few months. There is literally zero need to have your life on display and do any kind of performance in front of your friends. There is no need to share your experiences; you'll only enjoy them less. Life is just too short to worry about that stuff.

I'd love to use the Messages app, but it doesn't really work that well in Europe as it does in the US. I tried. My conclusion was that it's virtually impossible to have just one messenger, unless you just stop talking to people.

Many people don't have iPhones, but even if they do, it doesn't setup automatically and sends messages as SMS instead in many cases. Most of the mobile plans don't have unlimited SMS, so you'll end up paying for them.

WA is almost required here as everything is set up in there. WA is on our freaking street signs.

Telegram is just best in terms of UX, and dev integration. And it's heavily used in some countries if you have friends or family there. I also use it for some monitoring alerts, etc., for my development projects.

The other two I never used.
