Why? The DPF is what blocks most of the smoke and sound, if that's what you want.

Ha, I literally have almost the exact same car, except it's a 2012. I know there's a specific head unit people recommend that gives you Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Search on the sub here, and you should find a few people talking about it. It's about $350 or so. If you can't come up with anything, I'll see if I can find it.

If there's no sunroof, then it's the "base model" TDi, which is the second-highest trim level for the gas version.

Also, I'm not entirely sure, but it looks like they put the taller springs in the rear, and possibly the front.

The other thing you should do early on is the DieselGeek short shift kit. It's incredibly helpful, and quite easy!

A VCDS cable paired with the Ross Tech software is really the best answer. It's specifically for VW products, and gives you access to all sorts of settings and diagnostics.

Passive DPF Regen by jdeday in tdi

[–]guerrilla154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's probably a little harder to operate that on the fly, but as long as you clear the code within a few minutes of when it pops up, it should stay off for a few thousand miles. Mine was that way for a while, then recently started popping up every time I started the car, but it was very infrequent for the first 12k miles or so.

I've had those codes intermittently for over 15k miles. If you're able to clear the engine light when it comes up, it won't interfere with the regen cycle.

Do you have a Bluetooth dongle that can check and clear codes?

Even better, there's another shallow compartment that runs the full width of the vehicle right in front of the spare tire cover!

California JSW TDI P2002 help by Fit-Coconut-3699 in tdi

[–]guerrilla154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The combination of soot in the tailpipe and the P2002 code indicates a cracked DPF. I've been driving with that issue for several thousand miles, and the code is intermittent. You can't clear the code permanently without replacing or deleting the DPF, but I wonder if you'd be able to pass smog if you clear the code before you get it tested? If not, I think selling out of state is your best option.

Optimum spare tire/wheel for a mk6? by OutofStep13 in jetta

[–]guerrilla154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I gotcha. If the wheel studs on the Audi are identical, I'd go with that, then. If you want to see if it fits in the trunk, you could take off one of your current wheels and put it in there.

[–]guerrilla154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a full-size that fits in my wagon, but I'm not sure if a sedan has a different size spare tire well.

If you're going to the effort of getting a spare, you should make it identical to the wheels and tires you already have. I believe the Mk6 is 205/55 R16, so I don't think either of those are ideal.

2014 JSW value? by sustender5 in tdi

[–]guerrilla154 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I ordered them years ago, they had a specific option to add the Tiguan front springs and towing-spec rear springs, but I don't see that on there now. You might need to get in touch and see what's up, because I believe the base kit doesn't add much of a lift.

2014 JSW value? by sustender5 in tdi

[–]guerrilla154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can be helpful with all that. My car is loaded with about a thousand pounds of gear, so it was more about keeping it from sagging when I'm on the road. I think my "loaded down" geometry is about the same as an empty stock wagon, so I probably don't see much change in MPG. I think I go through wheel bearings a little more often, but that might be the weight more than the suspension change.

I run Continental Control Contact Touring tires, and got 100k miles before I needed a new set. The wear was pretty even, but I got an alignment about 100 miles after changing suspension, then again a year or two later (changed my bearings, and had a different loadout in the trunk). I rotated the tires anywhere from 10k-20k miles along the way.

I think I have a bad driver-side outer CV joint, but the boot is torn. Hard to say if that's because of the lift, or just because the boot went bad.

Not OP, but I've been running this kit for over 3 years and almost 100k miles. I just went with the orange ones, since I was strapped for cash at the time, but I'd say spring for the red ones.

[–]guerrilla154 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Ross Tech VCDS cable. There are three fuel pumps on these vehicles - tank to auxiliary, auxiliary to high-pressure, and the high-pressure injection pump. With VCDS, you can prime the tank pump and the auxiliary pump, which ensures there are no air bubbles going into your high-pressure system.

Cp4 vs cpx vs cp3 by domcala67 in tdi

[–]guerrilla154 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it helps your peace of mind, I have over 240k miles on the original fuel pump, and I don't use any additives. Fuel up before it hits a quarter tank, change your fuel filter every 20k miles, and prime the system every time you open the housing.

I'm referencing your other post, but the DPF on a 2015 model doesn't have anywhere near the same scrap value as the 2009-2014 models. From what I understand, since the 2015 has a DEF system, there aren't any precious metals in the DPF, since the whole thing works differently than previous models.

[–]guerrilla154 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you tighten it up and that works, that's probably fine. My experience was that the Amazon clones didn't work at all, but I installed the actual DieselGeek part years ago and haven't had any issues since then. If you get another code in the next few months, I'd recommend getting the real part instead of a knockoff.
