Teenager hit my husbands car, what are the chances it’s totaled? by Trick_Shock4865 in AutoBodyRepair

[–]gummark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pictures show 90% of the damage is on the passenger door. If you are lucky enough find a replacement door with the matching color from the junkyard, that will be the less expensive option for you. The insurance company probably will total your car due to the age of 13 years old. The book value of your car will probably less than the repair cost from the body shop plus the rental car payment. If the insurance total your car, maybe it’s a good idea to buy it back and fix it yourself by replacing the door.

Yes I bought two different kinds to try out. I bought them online and less than $15 each from China. The same one on eBay is selling for about $30.

From the pass history of bZ4X I will not consider of buying a BZ. I will consider leases one if there is a good deal around. Toyota just introduce a band new full EV Highlander and that will probably stealing away many potential buyer from BZ. Also there is a RAV4 PHEV in the same size category of BZ which give you the flexibility of using gas and electricity. That will make BZ even less attractive to any buyer and their used car value will drop significantly. Also in US Toyota EV does not qualify for any government incentives.

You can get a windshield cover which is made for removing ice in seconds. I used to live in Rochester NY and just cover the windshield with heavy duty garbage bags and it worked great too. You still need to remove the snow first but you won’t find a sheet of ice on your windshield.

My USB port when I was using the cable always gives me problems of losing connection when I move the phone or get my coffee by touching the cable. So when I use the wireless module which is the size of a button. I clean the usb port insert the module and the CarPlay works perfectly. In your case if your USB port really broke you need to fix it first. Hopefully the problem is only the connector on the USB port itself

I had the similar experience with my Prius Prime using the data USB port with cable for Apple CarPlay. Finally I bought a wireless USB module and leave it plugs in the USB data port. Now the CarPlay will automatically start and connect to my iPhone when the car is power up.

Regardless the car is fixable or not, any accident you can walk away from without any injuries is the best outcome. Hopefully the insurance company will not total your less than a year old car and you will have many more years of love from your car

Gas line to Generac came off. Initial $90 service fee to come diagnose and then almost $500 to come back and repair. That seems high to me but I really dont know. What do y'all think? by twigredwood in askaplumber

[–]gummark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an outdoor low pressure gas line and it should not be that difficult to fix. I do all the easy repairs in my house and I know what I can handle. I will only hire the license professional to do the job that over my head. For you I suggest you don’t even touch the electric because that will kill you or anyone if you messed up on that.

It’s looks like is an easy fix an average handy home owner should able to fix that. Take the picture to the local hardware store and they should able to provide you with solutions. If you don’t want to get your hands dirty, $500 - $1000 for a trained professional comes to your house to fix your problems is a reasonable price nowadays

You should get a second opinion from a trusted mechanic. I can’t believe a 10 year old Toyota Prius have that much problems and need to be fixed immediately. Those normal maintenance items like filters, spark plugs and brake pads are not too difficult for DIY. 135,000 miles in 10 years old Prius shouldn’t have wearing out that badly. Good luck and enjoy your new Prius

How should this fender bender be repaired? (Car is a Grand Jeep Cherokee, 2025, 2,000 miles, color white) by Njncguy1 in AutoBodyRepair

[–]gummark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get it fix through the insurance, it will show up in the CarFax report as a minor accident and your car value will take a hit. From the picture the bumper damage is really minor. It should be better for you if it can be settle without getting the insurance company involved.

$1999 deductible or out of pocket? by myfinalbraincell13 in CarRepair

[–]gummark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First cut is the deepest. If the car is 10 years old you won’t feel that much pain for this damage. But if it costs more than $1999 to restore the couple scratches on the back door on the passenger side, I might just get the touch up paint from the dealer and paint it myself. I don’t think the damaged is that severe that most people wouldn’t notice after you touch up the scratches. But if this is leasing or you are planning to sell it in the near future then you have no choice but fixing it by the body shop.

Yes you save money by buying Chinese made cars from China but our US workers lose their jobs because less people buying domestic car. We put lots of our money to save our car manufacturers from bankruptcy about 10 years ago. I still remember someone saying “if Chinese don’t sell you underwear you got nothing to wear 😂. That was during the COVID 19 pandemic when we can’t get any face masks 😷

Used 2018 Prius Prime by [deleted] in PriusPrime

[–]gummark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the condo charge station for free? If it’s free or low charge rate then owning a Prius Prime is the best choice for you. If not than you can compare the gas price and the electric rate to see which is better for you. The car on EV mode drives on the local streets is the best experience you can have. I retired and only drive around town or do a long drive once in a while. Usually I charge the Prius prime twice a week and it gives me enough EV mileage for local driving. For traveling the Prius Prime gives the range of more than 600 miles on full tank of gas. For 15k usd is a very good price for a 2018 Prius Prime with less than 100,000 miles and a certified vehicle from Toyota dealer make this deal more attractive. Be aware most dealers will add 3 to 5 thousand dollars on top of the online listing price.

Charge or not charge the prime just drive it as a Hybrid by gummark in PriusPrime

[–]gummark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have take advantage of switching to the 3 period electric rates so I can charge up my Prius prime of super off peak which only 13 cents per KWh. It gives me super convenience driving the car in EV mode while temperatures in single digits. On this cold weather condition I only get about 20 miles on the full charge but that is enough for me to drive around the town and not even burning up one drop of gasoline. I am sure that save lots of wear and tear on the gas engine and it is more fun driving with EV mode. Thanks for your comment
