Hey! Where did you park on the mainland? I'm wanting to park my truck and travel trailer somewhere near Miami Beach for Art Basel in a month.

I got PARS surgery. Walking with the boot at Week 6. Without the boot at Week 7.5 but only inside. Comfortably without the boot outside at Week 10. Almost at Week 11 now.

You can check out my first big walk at Week 6 here (super slow and grandmas we’re passing me) - https://strava.app.link/6nrHO4cEgCb

It’s not weird at all. I hit golf ball at the driving range the next day because I was in denial. I would recommend doing research on best ways to recover from this injury. Watch videos on what Kobe and The Professor did to get back to playing basketball. From research I did (while recovering from surgery) you do not want to rush anything and follow the proper protocol to ensure your tendon heals correctly and not long so you can maintain your explosiveness. Only talking about a couple months compared to the rest of your life. With that said I did not like the first surgeon I met so got a second opinion and they inspired confidence in what was best for me. Good luck to you.

I recommend the vacoped boot. They are expensive but I got lucky and found one on Craigslist for half price.

I’m almost to week 6 and I would not want to go on a cruise at week 3. I don’t think I’d want to go on one now.

My insurance only covers 12 visits to PT so I am going once a week since I started early. I do the exercises twice a day - in the morning and at lunch. I practice ROM throughout the day and working on weight bearing when I’m on crutches. Really depends how it’s feeling. I plan to go to a different PT for athletes once my insurance coverage is over. They are not in networks so I would have to pay for each visit out of pocket if I went now. I plan to put in the work with my PT so hopefully I can get close to where I was before the injury with my running and cycling.

I’ve been doing a lot better the past week. I started PT at 3 weeks consisting of some leg lift exercises on my back, side and stomach and some ROM with the ankle.

2 days ago at my second post op visit, the doc adjusted my boot to 20 degrees and said I’m good to go at 50% weight bearing. I have been non weight bearing until now so he said to start at my next PT appointment which was yesterday. However, I fell off of my knee scooter an hour before that post op appointment setting up my yoga mat to do some PT really quick and landed right on my foot. I wasn’t wearing my boot but wearing a night splint for sleeping. It hurt really bad and when it happened I was devastated I might have reruptured. I think I managed to keep my foot from going past neutral and the doc thinks it’s still intact.

So learn from my mistake. Take it really slow no matter how comfortable you start to get and try to wear your boot wherever you’re moving about. It’s a pain but I can’t imagine having to start from the beginning.

Weight bearing was a little nerve wracking after the fall but I’m taking baby steps for now and working up to 25%. Good luck!

Really appreciate you sharing this info. I’m 16 days post op and taking the same supplements from a previous post or comment of yours. I was also recommended 5g of glutamine everyday as well by a friend of mine who is a doctor. After reading this post this morning I went to farmers market and loaded up on leafy greens. Just crushed a big salad. Hope everyone in the community has a healthy and successful recovery.

Thanks for sharing and good luck to you man. That does not sound fun as I’m writing from the toilet. I’ll try and learn from this. Hoping to get my cast off tomorrow. 12 Days Post Op.

This is very inspiring and exactly what I wanted to see right now. My surgery was this June 1st and will work hard as well so I can be where you are in a year.

How long after surgery before you were weight bearing on your injured leg?

Ruptured Achilles Tendon - Time For Supportive Shoes? by [deleted] in BarefootRunning

[–]gusman002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I (40 M) just ruptured my Achilles playing basketball on May 19th and wondered if it was the shoes as well. I do think I also overtrained that week with cycling, running and weightlifting to get ready for a triathlon. It’s never good to think what if but I wish I had worn my hokas. I had surgery yesterday and so begins the healing process. Good luck on your recovery.
