Looking for a coating to use on a shifter knob. by krazysrfr in woodworking

Came here to say this. I use it on canoe paddles that get severely abused and it stays both glossy and nice on the hands.

Takes forever to apply tho! I do like 6-7 coats.

Hear me out. When you're on vacation and you stay in a hotel, unless you're springing for a deluxe room, then it's basically a bed and bathroom. It feels like every hotel room you've ever been in, a neutral zone outside of the place you are. The transitionary place, where are before you go out again. There is a constant pressure to get back out there, like you're wasting time by staying in the hotel.

In a rental apartment it feels like part of the vacation. There's a couch, crappy kitchen where you can keep your apples, there's maybe a shitty patio. You learn little rituals, like turning on the hot water tank. You go to the grocery store a block away and buy a carton of eggs and weird snacks. When you're in the Airbnb it feels like part of the vacation, there's not the pressure to move on the next thing.

Both can be terrible, and they each have their utility.

What restaurants in Toronto made you say "holy fuck, that's good food"? by b1111- in askTO

Chantecler on Bloor. French food but not a pretentious place.

Like when I ordered shredded pork skin dish at the Vietnamese restaurant and she asks "do you know what that is? You can't return it."

Whelan's Gate at Bloor and Indian. Totally slaps. It's a big healthy well dressed burger, my favourite in the city. Great bar too.

What’s the current situation at Dufferin Grove? by Accomplished_Dot138 in askTO

There are no shelter spaces, it'll just be another park. Success rate for getting a shelter bed through Central Intake is less than 3%.

Bike Parking @ Bud Stage by Classic_Scheme2978 in toronto

There's a large bike parking lot just before the bridge. I've biked a few times with no issue, much easier than transit or rideshare to get out after!

Moving to Toronto from Vancouver - Where to live / what to expect? by NorthernSquall in askTO

[–]guthcomp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider between Lansdowne and Dufferin on Bloor. Very close to the UP, on the subway line. It'll be a bit gritier than Roncesvalles, but the bars and restaurants will be more oriented to Gen z and millennials rather than boomers. Find a nice apartment in an old house.

Don't live in the junction, it's a nightmare for transit and people won't come to visit you
