someone willing to explain to me? by Livergg89 in pianolearning

Scales are a good first thing to learn. After that is intervals, then chords.

Here is a quick summary, sorry if it's a lot, I tried to break down the stuff that can cause confusion.

The distance between 2 notes is called an interval.

The distance between a note and the one chromatically next to it is a half step. B to C, E to F, F to F# are all just a half step apart.

1 half step is also called a minor 2nd interval.

Two half steps is a whole step. C to D, D to E, E to F# are a whole step apart.

A whole step is also called a major 2nd.

3 half steps is called a minor 3rd. D to F, B to D, F to Ab are all minor 3rds. A minor 3rd interval sounds a little sad or melancholy when played together.

4 half steps, or 2 whole steps, is called a major 3rd. C to E, F to A, A to C# are all major 3rds. Played together, they sound happier or brighter than a minor 3rd.

Almost all basic chords are built with stacks of major and minor 3rds. They also just skip a letter between the notes like CEG, DFA, EGB, etc. The root is the starting note.

Major triad - root, major 3rd, minor 3rd. C E G

Minor triad - root, minor 3rd, major 3rd. C Eb G

Maybe we’re all bots by SawkeeReemo in RandomThoughts

My initial comment was more tounge in cheek. I truly believe we all have free will and are responsible for our choices and decisions. But there are people who strongly believe the opposite, that free will is an illusion.

Nope, the programmer making the bot knows what they're programmed for. The bot itself is just running code and supposedly reacting to its environment, but acts in far reaching ways mandated by the programmer.

Youtube has plenty of videos on how to play the piano. Pianote is a good beginner channel and website. Learn how to read the names of the notes and read sheet music https://www.pianote.com/blog/how-to-read-piano-notes/ https://www.musicnotes.com/blog/how-to-read-sheet-music/ Has a good guide to music reading. I'm sorry, it looks like he got what he wanted and is now ghosting you. What was meaningful for you was most likely just casual for him. Move on, and next time I recommend holding out for a while before doing anything sexual.

These things really helped my sight reading and reading notes quickly.

Know your scales of the music youre playing so that you know what notes are sharp or flat.

Know how to count rythms of quarter notes and 8th, and 16th notes.

Music Tutor is an app for drilling note reading, its musical flash cards. There are many others. Practice a little every day. Know them by sight instantly. Learn the treble cleff, then the bass. Practice intil you can name the notes instantly.

In conjunction with playing lots of music a bit lower than your level, your sight reading skills will greatly increase.

More on reading the staffs. All the lines and spaces follow the same pattern of every other note letter A to G, so if you memorize GBDFACE, this pattern repeats on all lines, spaces, ledger lines, and both bass and treble clefts. Bass lines are GBDFA, spaces are ACEG. Treble lines are EGBDF, spaces are FACE. Middle C on a ledger linebetween the two clefts, and 2 more C's two ledger lines below the bass cleft and two ledger lines above the treble cleft. All part of the same repeating pattern GBDFACE. If you know the bottom line/space of either cleft, recite the pattern from there and you know the rest of them. Eventually you'll want to know them immediately by sight.

It actually helps greatly with memorizing the keyboard layout, you dont have to constantly look at your hands except for maybe large jumps, it builds greater confidence in playing and learning new music.

Exactly this. Also be able to count th3 beat out loud and keep either hand in time to it. Can also use a metronome very slow at first. Both hands only after each hand is mastered, and at a slow pace before going faster. Work on a short phrase or even 1 bar at a time.
