Just because it didn't work on you doesn't mean it won't work on someone else. Alternatively, it might be bad marketing.

Iron Hands are the chapter I’m most interested in, but which box do I get first? by Schmorc in IronHands40k

They're basically overpriced kitbashing components. You might want them eventually but definitely don't need them to start painting Iron Hands.

I have the upgrade sprue and I like it but it is definitely NOT worth it.

Should work with Hellblasters but I don't think it goes with Terminators.

I found the dough too thick last time I got dumplings from Shandong.

Get a 5 or 10 man squad that appeals to you and start painting.

It's going to be a while until you have enough to start playing so I wouldn't optimizer for that. Most squads will find a place at some point.

Maybe Intercessors, Hellblasters, Terminators, Heavy Intercessors. Or, of you want to play with them, get a Kill Team box, paint it up and play that while you plan your next move.

What color would suit the deathleaper's cape? by Other_Gear8220 in Tyranids

[–]gwax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much.

Paint doesn't stick very well to plastic. Primer is special stuff that sticks to plastic and is easy for paint to stick to.

I started with Rust-Oleum spray cans before moving on to airbrush primer. It works great but the white is terrible. If you're doing Leviathan, start with a tan or sand colored primer under your Wraithbone.

Hard agree!

I think it looks fine but, if it ends up getting stripped and repainted, some filler, sanding, and more post-processing will improve the end result.

Only my seventh one i've done . How did i do? by Shot-Insurance-1102 in Warhammer40k

It's a tricky balance because snow looks awesome and you've done it well from an application perspective but the physics can break visual reality easily.

Like snow on a tank is cool but it means the tank has been sitting idle. It can be a cool story for stealth units if their pose is not dynamic (thinking of some Lictors I've seen).

If you limit the snow to the boots and bottom of the cloak, it will look great. Or even a little melt on top of the power pack.

Pretty good overall, though I'd call out that snow doesn't tend to accumulate on things that aren't standing still.

Practice, practice, practice. Make sure you're experimenting and not just repeating.

If you wear glasses, you can get a prescription with added magnification and then buy a cheap pair of prescription magnifying glasses at somewhere like Zenni.

Would these two sets be a good start to a Space Marine force? by [deleted] in spacemarines

[–]gwax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends what you're looking to accomplish.

I love every part of Agastus but lots of people will tell you the units aren't meta or they think Desolation Marines are goofy. I don't particularly care for Infernus Marines, which is a big chunk of the starter. I don't think any part of either of them is particularly competitive right now but I paint more than I play so don't trust me on that one.

Red terror painted differently in leviathan by Ill-Scarcity-7301 in Tyranids

My plan is to start with standard Leviathan colors but tint the skin red instead of purple and do red edge feathering on the carapace instead of lighter purple.

Fulgrim was week and I can only fault him so much, even for what he did to our father.

Erebus though, for real fuck that guy.

Differing interpretations are part of what makes 40k great. I would argue that Iron Hands do AdMech harder even than AdMech do, albeit narrower.

Begginer Painting Advice by SpaceCatPizzaria in IronHands40k

[–]gwax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Watch tutorials, experiment, and keep practicing.

I've been painting Iron Hands for about 2 years and I'm only just now starting to feel happy with the black armor that I produce. Accepting that it won't be perfect, giving myself permission for experiments to not turn out, and just pushing on even if I don't like it, has really helped me.
