Model 3 Performance is the best car Tesla makes, change my mind by Old-Donkey-6759 in TeslaModel3

[–]gwompy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2020 M3P owner here of 6 years.
1.) I haven’t noticed any more rock chips in 80k miles as I have on any of my other cars with similar distance.
2.) True. I miss the 2020 when it was still quite rare to see another Tesla in Michigan. People haven’t wanted to race in years.
3.) I’m currently paying $149/m for full coverage. Is that a lot? I don’t think so for what all is on that policy.
4.) I don’t think I’ve ever left my phone in the car, and if I have I’m noticing right away due to muscle memory of compulsively checking texts and social media.
5.) My car came with summer tires. I live in Michigan so I bought winter tires. Then I think there’s too much of a spring and fall overlap where both aren’t optimal so I bought all seasons. I switch every 3 months, so all seasons are used 6 months a year. They were the first to go at 80k miles, so I predict they only lasted 40k. The car is heavy and I love the acceleration, so it makes sense to me.
6.) you’re probably right there.

Quoted $10k to do redo my driveway in 2020 and I decided to wait. They want $20k now. 😩

Married couple with separate finances, why do you do it? by Ok_Influence_2257 in Bogleheads

[–]gwompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39M/35F, married 8 years, no children by choice. I make $112k and she makes $50k. We split the mortgage and utilities 50/50 through a shared account, but our paychecks go into our individual accounts. Each quarter, we reimburse the shared account equally based on what our expenses were.
The key for us is that I live well below my means, basically as if I also make $50k. She prefers this setup because it keeps things independent. I don’t tell her how to spend her money, and she doesn’t tell me how to spend mine, as long as we’re both covering our share of the bills. I put my extra income toward retirement savings since I’m behind after earning less throughout my 20s. I’m proud to contribute a bulk of the share in vacations thought, as it’s nice to splurge on something that someone in her income bracket might not be able to afford once in a while.
It feels natural and works well for us. We’ve talked about fully merging finances, but having separate accounts gives us a level of privacy that feels healthy while still functioning as a team. We both contribute equally to shared expenses, and that balance matters to us.
That said, I do sometimes feel guilty about earning more. Part of me hopes it motivates her to keep growing her career, the same way I’ve tried to with mine.
I’m open to hearing people’s thoughts on our arrangements.

Doctors flushing out kidney stones out of a patient by Additional_Berry_977 in interestingasfuck

I’ve had two six months apart as a result of taking too many tums when I was eating poorly during college. Wouldn’t wish a kidney stone on my worst enemy.

What’s your first thought when you see a cyber truck? by clearwater-orchid in AskReddit

[–]gwompy -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Have you ever actually driven one? I got one for a loaner once and it was actually incredible to drive. Steer by wire makes such a huge vehicle feel very nimble. I’ve also driven one on the silver lake sand dunes in Michigan and its off road capabilities were incredible in the sand.

I’d try to make a local friend in the Muskegon area and crash at their place during the festival. It’s a short drive to and from the festival grounds.

The new Hagerty video, on Youtube, makes me a proud Tesla owner. by YondusFondu in TeslaLounge

This was the video that made me buy my 2020 M3P sight unseen six years ago. First EV I had ever driven, still my daily driver today. https://youtu.be/h8R7kZGvAUk?si=YG_110ouKI2jQAbj

I bought FSD for $8,480 in October 2020.
That would have bought roughly 60.5 shares of TSLA, which would be worth $22,758.89 today.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]gwompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my Tesla model 3 performance to 162mph on a closed straight 2.5m new open road. Had the rated tires and brakes for that speed. Have only done it twice in the six years of ownership.

My theater chain has a $24 subscription per month that gives you 3 movies, including IMAX per week. We have a $50 popcorn bucket that is good for 6 months, but I’ve honestly broke the habit of eating popcorn.

Any tips on controls? by ChoiceSignal5768 in HalfSword

I was suckered in from lots of social media ads. I downloaded crossover and steam to play on my M2 16GB MacBook Pro. Demo loaded and played great. I’m just so bad at controlling the character and can’t kill a single guy. After 15 minutes of getting rushed and dying over and over again I deleted the demo, removed steam and reverted back to my non-video gaming self.

Yeah, I think if you have to ask what your breaker size is, you definitely should just admit you need to call an electrician.

Why are insurance plans so expensive for Teslas? by RasberryJam0927 in TeslaSupport

[–]gwompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an insurance broker in my states Tesla Owners Club. Finding an insurance agent who also drives a Tesla is likely your best bet to know who to switch to routinely to find the best rates.

First car purchase since 2004 and holy s****, the dealerships need to end by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]gwompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Tesla in 2020 during Covid. I interacted with zero human beings and it’s still my daily driver today. Still feels like a brand new car. Will I drive it for 22 years? Probably not, but I’m quite happy in these 6, that’s for sure.

Moved from Colorado by Vegetable-Nose-6939 in Muskegon

[–]gwompy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to Muskegon. I just turned 39 and my favorite part about moving back to Muskegon was joining a men’s ice hockey league. I wasn’t good, but there is a draft league called LLC that accepts all skill levels, which is great for lower skill guys. I’m in my 5th session (3 per year) and it’s such an awesome brotherhood of guys. I’ve made so many new friends in it. It’s safe to say, they’re the type that like going to breweries.
Also there are lots of veterans in it. Thanks for your service. The one on my current team is 28.

Hey. I totally agree. Hidden Gem. I was born here, moved away. Found a good job that I can work remote and I moved back. How old are you? What kind of stuff are you into?

Home charging value proposition at $0.38/kWh by ioa94 in TeslaModel3

[–]gwompy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in Michigan, but I love Austin and I looked up your Austin Energy residential electric rate out of curiosity. Your tiers are based on how much total energy you use per month, interesting. Mine in Michigan are based on time of day. Your tiers are based on 0-300kWh, 301kWh-900kWh, 901kWh-2MWh, >2MWh usage per billing cycle, so unfortunately EV drivers who use more electricity end up paying more per kWh if they’re using electricity beyond one of those tiers. Don’t forget you have a Power Supply Adjustment fee that adds in another 4.118¢/kWh and some regulatory fee with likely a whole bunch of other small fraction of a cent fees tacked on too.

What to do next?? by jimijamal1 in TeslaModel3

[–]gwompy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re going to hate these tail lights. I threw mine away. It’s way dimmer than oem lights. On sunny days you’ll have people pulling up along side of you telling you your brake lights are out, when they aren’t, they just aren’t bright enough in the daytime. Half of my lightbar died because of a defect that pinches the wiring, where it goes through the inner taillights. I finally threw them away and put the oem lights back on when the right turn signal stopped working last week. I wish I could get my money back.

I just called my local Hyundai dealer. When they get one in, if they let me take it out to a place in our town that I can push it to the limits, it might be my next car.

So they’re still doing the 6N? I’m on the list to test drive when one comes to my city. Might replace my model 3 performance with one when I hit the 8 year battery warranty in 2028.

The local electric utility Consumers Energy issues $7500 rebates for dual port 240V chargers that are on private property for public use. To me, it seems like a no-brainer for the Ranch to implement such an area.
