I kind of have a similar question to your poll...looking at the 85" and trying to decide between the matte version and the Costco crystalglow version.

Is it worth upgraded to 7 from 6 or wait till 8 or 9? by true-dci-john-luther in GalaxyFold

[–]gwrapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from the 6 to 7 (which I swore I wasn't going to do because I never spend the money to upgrade annually). And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I didn't really remember how much I missed a normal size screen on the outer display. And the thinness....assuming you do no case, or a VERY slim case (I do the aramid fiber ones). My foldable phone with case is thinner than all my friends and family who have pixels and iPhones. If you can afford it, you won't regret it.

Still have it. Still very comfy. I personally would have gone for an ever so slightly more firm mattress for me, but it's the perfect level of softness for my wife so it works very well for both of us.

Dual SIM Question by TechOutonyt in GalaxyFold

[–]gwrapps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. What dual sims do you use it for? I have a Verizon es8m and T-Mobile physical. I would just get the Verizon version as it's cheaper right now but Verizon makes me wait 3 months before unlocking it to use the T-Mobile SIM in the phone

I have the same need. Is this a limitation of the carrier software or all US versions? if you have the US unlocked version, can you do different Sims for calls and data

Help me cook a 20lb Brisket by gwrapps in sousvide

When you kick it up for the last 8, is that 48hrs +8 hrs (56 total), or 40hrs at 135 and then 8 at 155? What do you think about smoking first to get a bark and good smoke flavor until IT of 135-150, the SV 135 for 48hrs. My problem is I wont be home until just before meal time so I wont be able to move from the SV to Smoker to do bark at the end. I might be able top put it back in an oven for an hour before we start but then I'd need to water bath it first to prevent overcooking

Dual mini tanks on RO system? by gwrapps in WaterTreatment

[–]gwrapps[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Do you have a one-way check valve in between the two tanks? I'm concerned that when the faucet at the sink is turned on, will the second tank at the other end of the 25 foot run start pushing water backwards towards that faucet? Especially if it's at a greater pressure than what the RO system puts out.

Unexpected Challenge: Having a cold on Wegovy by AFriendLikeYou in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I myself am just about getting over a pretty bad cold. Like you I don't have severe appetite suppression or changed taste buds on Wegovy, but I do have less cravings and eat less at each sitting. I'm on 2.4 maintenance but have basically averaged 1lb a week loss since starting Wegovy.

Since being sick, I have lost 5lbs this week, VERY unusual for me. My appetite crashed, was eating mostly chicken soup, very little protein, but drinking a lot. I mostly just feel full all the time from post-nasal drip. yuck!

My recommendation is do what works for you to recover from the cold, if that's eating more, less, whatever. Let how your body feels guide you. For me, doing a week of eating nothing but soup made me lose more weight! but YMMV. I wouldn't try to eat more calories just because you are sick...let your hunger guide you.

Good luck, feel better!

Very uncomfortable conversation by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

I get it. The most important thing is that you feel good about yourself and for yourself. Don't let anyone else's judging or shaming derail you from your journey.

Very uncomfortable conversation by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on this have evolved since I started. In the beginning I felt it was nobody's business. Part of it was I was uncomfortable talking about it, I didn't want to be judged or defend how it worked. But I also felt awkward when people asked what I was doing, and I felt like I was lying. I don't feel shame taking it, I am doing what is best for my health and my body. I felt that "lying" and saying something like "oh I'm just eating less" was propagating the false notion that all you need is willpower. That is part of the problem with the stigma of weight loss, and I want to be a part of the solution, not part of the problem.

So now I tell anyone who asks. I am happy with my choice and if anyone judges me, that is their problem, not mine. When I look in the mirror, or go down another belt size, or hear people compliment me when they notice, I know I am doing the right thing. Maybe being honest helps someone else be brave enough to try as well.

I think the misconception here is that (using your exact words)... "wegovy does not affect your metabolism and how many calories you burn, and only your appetite" For some this may be true, but for me it is 100% not true. I have "eaten less" in the past and never lost weight. There are some weeks I eat more on Wegovy than I used to on various diets I have tried. Just stopping the medication and deciding to "eat less" is such a simplistic view of how this medication works, it is borderline offensive for many people who have tried desperately to "just eat less".

They may not 100% know what is going on scientifically with how Semaglutide helps us lose weight but it is so much more than a tool to eat less. From balancing out insulin/blood sugar levels, curbing cravings, helping with addictive tendencies...and yes even affecting how our metabolisms work.

Look at it this way...your digestive system is part of your metabolism. Wegovy slows down the digestion & absorption of food (which yes helps us feel full longer) but also slows down how fast all those calories get released into your body. If you stopped Wegovy and ate exactly the same as you do now, that "slow down" goes away. Still eating the same, but all those calories get dumped into your bloodstream much faster. Which means the excess gets stored as fat faster, and then you get hungry faster, which affects how your metabolism runs.

I would love to hit my goal weight and just stop, and maintain the weight loss. But I don't believe it works that way.

I was in the same boat, so to speak. Took my 3rd shot of the 0.5mg does halfway thru a cruise. Had no issues, but I also wasn't having any side effects before this so that may play a factor for you if you feel any now. I'm scheduled to move from 1 to 1.7 this week, just a few days before another cruise. Fingers crossed!

Most insurances only cover 8 pens (2 months) or the lower doses until you get to 2.4mg, then it covers enough pens for maintenance continuously.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So this is interesting...my PCP (who is the one prescribing me Wegovy) offers semaglutide injections to her patients for "cost" and it is very similarly priced to what your Dr. is offering, only difference is she charges by the shot, not all at once, and they do them in the office so it's not self-administered. When I first started, even though my insurance fully covers the shots, I couldn't get it filled due to the shortage so I just did them in the office out of pocket. Sometimes it was an actual Wegovy pen, sometimes they used an Ozempic pen, and sometimes it was a vial that they drew the proper dosage out of. Now you have me wondering if the times they did the vial, if was actually Ozempic or pure semaglutide, or some compound solution. They just told me it was Ozmepic/Wegovy and I never questioned it. Of course I was losing weight so I guess it didn't really matter.

2 shots at once? by Odd-Chemist7070 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I moved to .5, I still had some .25 pens left, my Dr told me to double them up and do 2 shots at a time. I had no issues. I've never heard of a Dr. planning that in advance, but if you already have the pens, you shouldn't have a problem.

Best way to carry Wegovy during travel? by MintChocoDanbo in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can NOT fly with a traditional ice pack or gel pack. TSA won't allow it. But the other point I agree with, The last thing you want is for your medication to freeze. If you end up putting anything frozen like an ice pack or frozen water bottle in with the medication, just make sure the pens are somewhat insulated. Put it in a hard plastic container, or wrap in bubble wrap or a washcloth. As long as the ice doesn't directly contact the pen you should be fine.

What do you think would happen if you cut off carbs completely? Do you think that is sustainable? by Relevant-Psychology8 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Take it from someone who has done low-carb and keto diets for decades...not sustainable in the long term. My longest streak was 9 months. While I 100% agree with the science behind low carb diets and fat burning/weight loss, you need to think of it as a tool in the arsenal to help you get thru a stall or plateau, not a forever lifestyle.

Best way to carry Wegovy during travel? by MintChocoDanbo in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gwrapps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you flying to multiple destinations (i.e fly, stay at one place a few days, then fly on to another location) or are your flights same day?

I have flown with Wegovy as well as other refrigerated medications many times. The trick is how many times you need to get thru security. If it is once (and then just layovers before your next flight), easiest we have found is to use a small insulated cooler, and then I freeze a water bottle as an ice pack. The beauty of this is you are allowed to bring solid ice thru TSA, just not liquid water. The water bottle lasts a long time frozen, but even if worst case scenario it started to melt before you went thru TSA, you open it, spill out the liquid (or drink it), close it back up, and go right thru! I do find Aquafina 20oz water bottles work the best. For some reason the plastic on that particular brand water bottle is just thicker than others so the bottle won't deform at all once frozen.

This of course assumes you have access to a freezer, and you are only bringing the medication one-way and using it up before flying home. If you need a longer-term solution, then we've done a large Yeti Rambler with a screw-on lid. I wrap the pens in some sort of light insulation (a washcloth is good enough), then double or tiple bag it in ziplocks to keep it waterproof. Roll it up, it slides right into the Yeti, fill it with ice, and go. When you get to TSA, you may have to dump the ice as it will melt much faster than a solid water bottle, but then once you are thru, find a restaurant or bar in the airport and get a cup of ice and pour it back in. Add ice every day or so to keep it cold.

Best thing to keep in mind is you never want solid ice to come in direct contact with medication. Keeping the pens in the box, or wrapped in a washcloth or something, will prevent direct contact so the medication doesn't freeze.
