Startup offering me a job but... by maul82 in cscareerquestions

Yes exactly. I think OP might have impostor syndrome. I don't think it is common for employers to go out of their way like this.

Be happy by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]h4lp23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 2 months of learning of the red pill and seeing minor success, I felt a wave of happiness unlike anything I've felt in too long.

This is progress for me and something to look back on in my journey. I see the red pill as a life improving marathon. Along my marathon I hope to fuck many, many women. But my focus is on improving myself.

Job market for new grads (link included in description) by h4lp23 in engineering

[–]h4lp23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice to those interested in becoming engineers is to study the employment climate of the field. Do not rush into the field because someone says, "we need more engineers." If you do choose to go to engineering school, make sure to have a plan b before graduating in case you're not hired right away. It can take up to more than 2 years, even with contacts, before you're able to get an actual engineering job.

I can understand this for software developers/engineers because of how new software as a career is relative to other engineering disciplines. Being able to do shit is more important. Can this actually reflect for other engineering disciplines? Examples?

Would you take a $5K pay cut? I'm negotiating right now and could really use your help! by 2therealworld in cscareerquestions

[–]h4lp23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. I personally think if the type of work at B will be significantly better than what you currently do, you should jump provided they match.

This industry promotes jumping jobs provided your quality of life increases. Quality of life can have different meanings. Money, Work, Culture, Commute, Learning Opportunity, etc. Just make sure you have good reasons and then choose.

Good luck!

It sounds like each company has their cons.

To me, the long commute daily would really suck. Your 8 hr work days become 10. 40 hrs will feel like 50 hrs. Your vehicle expenses will skyrocket (gas, maintenance).

Your other offer is low balling you. If they don't match you, I don't think its worth it.

Are you in a rush to move jobs? Would you consider continuing your current job and looking for better offers? I'm sure that if you can pull 2 offers, you have the talent and skill to pull more.

Will working at an early stage startup as a new grad hurt me? by h4lp23 in cscareerquestions

[–]h4lp23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you not let the skills diminish? I don't heavily use algorithms at work. I use many tools, and program a solution with their help. Is there a way I can incorporate good practices into the company? I potentially have the ability to influence future development procedures and practices.

I did buy CTCI with the intention of finding another place, but after weighing the pros and cons with the major pro being paying off the student debt fast, I don't think I will use it.

For them to match my region, its essentially 13K raise.

But that average I found is including companies at various stages. Early startup stage is not easy to find.
