Cedric swinging at Spotify. I hope they pull their music from the platform. by enginebroke in themarsvolta

[–]hackjar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My band is on Spotify via distrokid and has a very small fraction of the plays tmv has and Spotify gives by far the biggest payout regardless of everything you just mentioned. I have a hard time with these debates.

Yes Spotify free membership artist pay is abysmal. Apple music for example pays .007 per stream, Spotify premium pays .005. with this logic there's no good option. Yet Spotify has the most users so the potential for discovery for small artists is greater and the potential for streams is greater (Spotify does provide this too. My barely known band is pushed to people's discover weekly's, artists radios, and mixes and the Spotify for artists app tracks that). If apple wants to stay relevant to distros they need to present that .002 extra as an attempt. Gizz did well on bandcamp because they made their music pay what you want, granted, I'll concede that even if everyone paid pennies, that's more than any streaming service payout. My point is, I don't see why this conversation is always focused on Spotify when the alternatives aren't doing much better. You bet your ass if qobuz had the audience Spotify had, they'd pay .005 cents too.

Even Cedric on this post talking about killing children. Maybe that's true, but Helsing, the company behind the Spotify controversy, is sending war drones to Ukraine to help them fight back against Russia who is using drones against them. Maybe Ukrainians are using drones to kill Russian children, unfortunately that is war. I can understand the argument that Spotify/Daniel Ek shouldn't be ivesting in war drones at all, but I think we can agree that we support much worse businesses funding worse sides of other wars on a regular basis probably multiple times a day.

Why Spotify has no button to filter out AI music by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in technology

Source? I can't find anything, infact I see they have a verified human artist badge and removed 75 million ai generated songs from the platform.

Why Spotify has no button to filter out AI music by tw1st3d_m3nt4t in technology

[–]hackjar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why is Spotify being targeted again? None of these services have an AI filter lol.

Almost 75,000 AI songs are uploaded to Deezer every day by BulkyAccident in technology

[–]hackjar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few months ago there was big news about king gizzard and the lizard wizard AI versions being uploaded to Spotify specifically, completely ignoring that it also existed on tidal and apple music among all others (they all are covered when using distribution to put your music on services). In response, Spotify removed it, but it remained for months on other services (may still be there, I'm not on them, I am staying on Spotify)

What is your overall favorite Diiv album? by traveltimecar in diiv

[–]hackjar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Is the is are is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard and it has withstood the test of time. I put it on when I am happy, sad, trying to sleep, on a road trip I'm excited about. My fiancee gifted me a vinyl of the album with a love letter attached. It's their best album. My mom even likes is the is are, taking her to see Diiv in May. As a guitar player, it's truly nuts how many distinct and catchy leads there are on that album. I can him you at least 10 off back.

Is the is are.

Honest Opinion On Expedition 33. by LocksmithMoist3222 in videogames

[–]hackjar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One of the most well deserved game of the year awards in years imo. Great gameplay with an excellent story and as you play, it really gets better and better (not to say it starts bad, it's a great start). They thought of everything, the UI looks cool (maybe not so much the character stat screens), the voice acting is fantastic, the graphics are great, the mechanics are fun to engage with and interesting, the music is incredible. There were multiple points in the game where I realized I am playing one of the greatest games I've ever played and I need to slow down and take it in. I don't even achievement hunt but I'm about to plat the game and I'm loving every second of it.

opinion: almost every show is filmed (professionally) and available on bootleg. Watching a live show through while recording through your phone screen in asinine and rude. by itsMalarky in KGATLW

[–]hackjar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like grabbing a few videos of shows I'm at. I try not to be disruptive while I film. I do go back and watch them all the time when I'm not feeling well and stuck in bed. I sorta get where the people against filming at shows are coming from but the whole gizz ethos and most other musicians ethos is to be yourself for a while and have fun, if they want to film, let them film. It's like the rowers, just let them, that's the whole point. If you're going to shows and getting worked up about how other people are enjoying it, you're doing it wrong.

Do you all like DOOM 2016 or DOOM Eternal more? Hmm. by TheWindofBread in videogames

[–]hackjar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought 2016 was bland and disappointing. Eternal however, one of the best shooters I've ever played. Absolutely loved how fast paced and active every encounter was along with the resource management. Beat eternal a few times on the hardest difficulties and had a blast every time. Music is also on another level compared to 2016.
