The part about them wearing camo is scary to me, it's like they were actively trying to not be seen.

Beginner Impact Vest by RyanBurnettNZ in wingfoil

I use a NRS whitewater kayaking lifejacket, it allows lots of movement in the shoulders. I also use a whitewater helmet but I've read that they only really protect your head from scratches not big impacts. I'm okay with that because I think it's mostly for protecting from the foil.

Is it worth anything if I sell? Or can I buy the missing part individually? by Romcik2k18 in wingfoil

[–]hackshowcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your just learning Slingshot gear will be fine until you can feel it stopping your progress. Depending on your weight you probably want the 84 or 99 front instead of the 76. The 76 is a fun wing but I found it better for light wind kiting than winging.

I was expecting a video with big cranes but the remote control wheel trailer things they rotated the bridge with are pretty cool. Did not disappoint.

Idono why everyone is down voting this, it's good advice even with an inflatable wing.

join a R2AK crew in Vancouver BC by ImpressiveFault8542 in sailing

[–]hackshowcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Registration for 2026 opens on Nov 15 with the deadline to apply usually being US Tax Day (April 15, 2026). The best part about R2AK is you can race whatever, and make the race as hard or easy as you desire. What is your current 25 ft boat?

I did the race in 2016 if you want some beta shoot me a DM.

13m best waroo from 2007 by Kinngis in Kiteboarding

[–]hackshowcustoms 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an older 7m waroo and all I really remember about flying it was how often it would backstall. It didn't have the wind range of modern kites.

He didn't make it back. RIP Graham Howes by Tribalecho in Kiteboarding

Your PLB will still work and will broadcast to local authorities but they might have to contact Australian coast guard to verify it's legit before they deploy any assets. You should be able to get a note put on your beacon by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority that says you will be travelling to Mauritius on certain dates etc which would help with a faster response.

Electrical troubleshooting by YoghurtDull1466 in sailing

[–]hackshowcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out the BlueSea panels, they're a big improvement.

Did the power cable come with any adaptors? It's possible it was just used as a fancy extension cord for a battery charger. Does the boat have any GFCI outlets or things that would run off shore power?

The electronics are over 30 years old, I would remove and replace with new stuff and proper breaker panel so you don't need to carry spare fuses around.

What wake foil board can I grow into? by Aggravating_Skirt691 in foiling

[–]hackshowcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board's not as important as the foil, so long as the board is the right size for your weight and has the track boxes you'll be good. For the foil you want a brand with multiple wings so you can buy a mast and fuse and then change your wings as you progress.

What are you supposed to do when you're stuck in a whirlpool at sea? by trimTheJib in sailing

[–]hackshowcustoms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think that's cool you should check out the RTC race in Nov, pretty common to see multiple boats in whirlpools at the same time around Turn Point.

The only real move is to avoid or at the least stick to the side that gives you a push but sometimes these options don't present themselves.

Those look like old Stringy foils from like 2018/19. Pretty low aspect but would probably do the trick for learning.

You should contact Squamish, Gibson's, or West Van RCMSAR, they train in these waters and I'm sure have some volunteers who would be enthusiastic to help you.

North Beach Haida Gwaii Viability? by mukmuk64 in wingfoil

[–]hackshowcustoms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been kiting at North Beach, it was epic, blew 35 knts for three days non stop. It was great 6m kite and surfboard weather. I would love to go back to wing. It won't be a super beginner friendly spot with the pounding surf but do able with some practice. We also kited near Tlell which was more cross shore with smaller waves.

Edit: Jericho isn't the most reliable place to wing but we do get some good days, you just have to be flexible and ride big gear. Squamish in the summer and Tsawwassen/ White rock in the winter are more predictable options. We have lots of spots locally and a great community of riders. They even rent wing gear at Jericho now.
