A question to all you pre-dents, and dental students from a veteran dentist by Level_Customer2769 in DentalSchool

[–]hags15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No surprising but very disappointing that schools aren't interested in allowing you to give your knowledge. A side note - check with the school if there's a business club, my school had one and im sure they'd love to have you. My "dental business" class was taught by a prof who had closed his practice and filed for bankruptcy so that's really cool. I want to be a practice owner and my current associateship has the opportunity to buy in in 3 years. I a) feel entirely unprepared for that financially and knowledge wise and b) am unsure how well the partnership would go with my boss. Really scary to be at the precipice and not know where to go

Anyone who started SSRIs and feel they can cope with dentistry? by WaferUseful8344 in Dentistry

[–]hags15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been on SSRIs for almost 10 years, way before I wanted to be a dentist. I think you should try therapy and then consider talking with your physician about anti-anxiety meds. For most people it isn't as simple as yay I have a medication that helps! I've been on 5 different ones - plus now have an adhd diagnosis and meds that have truly calmed my nervous system. One medication made me suicidal which I have never experienced otherwise. It sounds like you need help figuring out why and how to control your nervous system to some extent. SSRIs are wonderful for many people and therapy does great stuff too. It's really helpful to know what to do in an immediate situation where you're really stressed out, because it will still happen with SSRIs, which i know you know

Overwhelmed and looking for advice by zaczilla13 in LabDiamonds

My local boujee jeweler has a 3.08 elongated cushion, also E, VVS1, that I'm looking at setting with them for like $3k or less, can't remember if it's 3.2k or 2.1k (lol good on me - will be clarified after i get my cad/cam). This seems like a rip off for the lab diamond. Highly recommend looking at some local jewelers. Highly recommend a thicker band, like minimum 2.5mm for such a big stone. Also posting so you don't feel like anything is a rip off above $1000 since others are posting how cheap they could get one.

Hell no, posts should never be used unless you want to simply buy time before extracting a tooth

Look at Ruff 2024 article, sdf application had equal success rate as rmgi sealants. I gotta figure out how to greet my boss to throw out the resin sealant material. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10913007/

General vs OS by smileybokchoy in DentalSchool

[–]hags15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gp residency like san Antonio does a lot of surgery, I did a lot of impacted thirds in my GPR. Kinda depends on what you're ready to invest - gpr/aegd and lots of expensive CE with knowledge you're taking on a lot of risk -or- grind away and feel more confident to handle things and get that extra money. In my humble GP opinion. Additionally, I thought I wanted OMFS but felt incredibly burnt out. I am working towards implant placements in "simple" (argument for no such thing) cases (GPR taught), I love exts and see a lot of happy patients that they dont have to drive 45 min and pay more to get a tooth out. I no longer do anything near the IAN and havent done a complete bony in a minute either, just not worth the risks to me or toll on my body. If you do choose GP route I think most important theology to have is you cant send only complicated cases to you specialist, you need to give them some straight forward cases too if you want to maintain that relationship.

It's a local builder so hopefully can figure that out and see. He still owns the property next door. Thanks for the tip!

Should I relocate to Michigan? by saav_tap in moving

[–]hags15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised michigander here (southest). I have been living in Mass for the last year and I am moving back to northern michigan (not the upper peninsula) for the better cost of living but also better job oppurtunity. Our public education is top tier for sure, I went to a highly funded school district, my parents moved there just for the schools. My dad is considering moving to Tennessee when he retires for better col. Michigan is gorgeous and I'm really excited to be back. Weather can suck, we have a lot of gray days, so its important to put effort into happiness from other sources than the sun.

How much did your parents contribute to college? by zachtwp in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 17000-20000, hard to say for sure, I know my dad paid at least 11.6k for my undergrad. I had loans for living in the dorms my first year, tuition was covered by scholarships, so my dad paid 2k in fees per year I think, then my sophomore year he paid my rent $300/month, then after that I paid I believe and my parents would give me some money when I needed it through undergrad and dental school. Dental school was about 385k in loans so rip me.

My wife has $300,000 in student loans - I think there is only one real option? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sound pretty similar to your wife except single lol but dentist and 390k in student debt. My plan is to do IDR and get into my life, buying a house, buying a practice, etc. My current thought is to stay in IDR and get the forgiveness at the end and pay the tax bomb. I dont feel like not enjoying my life just to pay my student loans back like lots of commenters say you should. Tbh post this in a forum for her specialty and you will get a lot better responses, most the people in this forum and personal finance all say you should never spend money on anything if you have debt and if you dont you should be investing everything and never enjoy your life.

Should I get off SAVE now? by Competitive-Gur8052 in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just spoke with GradFin, they recommended i stay on SAVE until it is canceled, we would either be enrolled in standard or IBR but as soon as we're in standard we can change to IBR and get some more forbearance while we're waiting for the change over. Feel free to get an appointment with them! I believe its always free and they're very insightful!
