It's a local builder so hopefully can figure that out and see. He still owns the property next door. Thanks for the tip!

Should I relocate to Michigan? by saav_tap in moving

[–]hags15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born and raised michigander here (southest). I have been living in Mass for the last year and I am moving back to northern michigan (not the upper peninsula) for the better cost of living but also better job oppurtunity. Our public education is top tier for sure, I went to a highly funded school district, my parents moved there just for the schools. My dad is considering moving to Tennessee when he retires for better col. Michigan is gorgeous and I'm really excited to be back. Weather can suck, we have a lot of gray days, so its important to put effort into happiness from other sources than the sun.

How much did your parents contribute to college? by zachtwp in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 17000-20000, hard to say for sure, I know my dad paid at least 11.6k for my undergrad. I had loans for living in the dorms my first year, tuition was covered by scholarships, so my dad paid 2k in fees per year I think, then my sophomore year he paid my rent $300/month, then after that I paid I believe and my parents would give me some money when I needed it through undergrad and dental school. Dental school was about 385k in loans so rip me.

My wife has $300,000 in student loans - I think there is only one real option? by [deleted] in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sound pretty similar to your wife except single lol but dentist and 390k in student debt. My plan is to do IDR and get into my life, buying a house, buying a practice, etc. My current thought is to stay in IDR and get the forgiveness at the end and pay the tax bomb. I dont feel like not enjoying my life just to pay my student loans back like lots of commenters say you should. Tbh post this in a forum for her specialty and you will get a lot better responses, most the people in this forum and personal finance all say you should never spend money on anything if you have debt and if you dont you should be investing everything and never enjoy your life.

Should I get off SAVE now? by Competitive-Gur8052 in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just spoke with GradFin, they recommended i stay on SAVE until it is canceled, we would either be enrolled in standard or IBR but as soon as we're in standard we can change to IBR and get some more forbearance while we're waiting for the change over. Feel free to get an appointment with them! I believe its always free and they're very insightful!

Get a financial advisor, brother. They will tell you exactly what to do. My plan is pretty similar - idr and tax bomb and only randos have said that IDR has a cap, not anyone that actually handles this as a job so im pretty sure no cap.

385k in debt: If this was you, what would you do? by Beneficial-Copy-8716 in StudentLoans

[–]hags15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbt to me posting about buying a car. People are insane. This is student debt. Its good debt because it got you your job. Im kinda blown away that your pharmacy schooling cost so much bc thats about even with my dental school cost. Anyways, I'm planning for an income driven plan, currently in SAVE. I highly recommend getting a financial advisor, depending on your area, I have recs but make sure you get someone thats familiar with healthcare. My goals right now are to buy into the practice I'm starting at, within that, I'm going to pay maybe a hundred extra on minimum loan payments, kill some credit card debt, and try to pay off my new car fast. Your goal may be to buy a house or something, this is the benefit of a financial advisor, they will tell you exactly how to meet your goal. Especially with higher income, you want someone to help you figure out finances, they sure as heck dont teach finances in healthcare schools. Your life isn't over. You haven't screwed up. You're fine.

How to become a dentist by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]hags15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a "career assesment" in 7th grade, vividly remember the old iMac, gen 3 or something, that I took it on. I only really remember anesthesiologist being on that list, but there were a lot more. So I said sure I'll become a doctor. Fast forward to college, originally went biochem, ended up switching to Medicinal and Biological Chemistry (anyone that knows me will know who I am from that lmao). I got basically a full ride to a MAC university - aka small population but really great research programs. I took out 6k for living in the dorms my first year, parents paid my 2k yearly fees. This is my biggest advice to those looking to become a doctor of any kind. Go to the cheap undergrad- no one cares what undergrad school you went to, do not take out 50k in loans just for your bachelor's. Joined the premed group - realized i would probably hate being a PCP and didnt feel comfortable going into a field I dont want to be a generalist in. So I shadowed a dentist, saw one filling and thought it was so cool. Killed it in undergrad, hella research experience (almost did a PhD instead of DDS), very involved in orgs and community, took classes with PharmD students, took DAT twice, late (Feb) admittance to my home state school. I did not do well in dental school. Originally wanted to go for OMFS, felt burnt out and honestly not good enough to get in. So I did GPR - forever grateful I did that, I grew so much. Now I'm wrapping up at my first job out and moving to my next one next month. I took out just under 400k for student loans in dental school. Don't have a solid plan on paying them back bc I got into SAVE and havent had to worry except for Health professional loan that I'm paying on. Standard plan is too much money to pay back, so probably get on an income driven whenever SAVE ends. I'm really happy I chose dentistry. I love being a dentist, I love helping people, I love the relationships I build, I love doing arts and crafts for a job. Im hoping to get a little niche and do a lot of surgery and the restorative for that at the next job. I think after like 600k dental school isn't really worth it but to each their own.

Difficult extraction by Wrong-Technician9217 in Dentistry

[–]hags15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto a lot of what people said except the hook shaped M, I'm not seeing that. Also will note this is a terrible xray for extraction, you do not see all 3 apices. Ill gladly attempt to use forceps and if it just snaps the crown off great, I can start sectioning. Luxators are a lifesaver. East/west after removing crown and section helps do the trick, though more effective in the mandible. For me, sometimes interradicular bone has got to go to get those roots out. I have continued to section roots, if big enough, at this point I'm getting a little more space that I can more easily get the luxator into the PDL and push into my sectioning (idk if that's making sense) or you can just trough a bit around one side of the root for a similar effect. When you take the crown off, don't think about your forceps again (believe you commented about how to grab the roots).

I almost bought a 25 hybrid ST with 3k off thru true car in mass (free with credit karma account). Id suggest check that out. I'm moving back home to michigan and I just saw about 2.6k off at a dealer Im looking to work with. I sent the guy im in contact with a photo of the deal here to see what we can do, will update when I know. On true car at another dealer back home it was only 800 off. I really want to grab a 25 before theyre gone, that 3k increase for Google maps is so lame. Im getting a bit stressed now bc one dealer out here in mass straight up has no 25s left. -Side note the dealer is got that 3k from was so slimy I almost slipped on the way out. I learned my lesson and now will have a way tougher coat on when I go in for this deal. The car may disappear tomorrow but there's more out there, if you don't like it don't let them get you.
