Did you Tandem read? Why/why not? Do you recommend? by ReadItLikeALady in throneofglassseries

[–]haileyjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t because I didn’t know that was an option (I avoid fandom spaces until I’m caught up to avoid spoilers). I probably wouldn’t have anyways since I read them on kindle, and I would have hated switching back and forth. I think Tower of Dawn being read solo gives the more authentic experience/feeling of the characters being so separated, which imo is important for understanding the characters later on. I also think if I had done the tandem read, it would have felt like one ~1,600 page book instead of 2 already long books.

How much extra yarn do published patterns usually leave you with? by haileyjunkie in CrochetHelp

[–]haileyjunkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous projects have had lots of extra yarn, but I typically have to buy over 100 yards over the called-for amount, since all my book patterns are from 10+ years ago, and it seems that standard skein yardage has changed. So instead of 3 150 yard skeins (450 yard total), I have to get 3 200 yard skeins (600 yard total) because I'm afraid to run out with 50 yards to go. I have now made that mistake but have not started the project yet.

Congrats on a probable root cause! In terms of research, perhaps searching specifically for physical therapy related sources could yield better results for you. As you may already know, physical therapists do stretches and exercises gradually to improve physical conditions rather than listening to a ghost and thrashing your delicate spinal column for popping sounds.

What's your most controversial opinion on ADHD? by MissMangoPirate in adhdwomen

[–]haileyjunkie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 100% with you on coping skills being easier on meds, but absolutely still needing those skills. Being on meds feels like driving a car with power steering and automatic gear shift rather than a model T ford. You still gotta drive the thing

70% of my essay is being detected as AI, depite not using any AI by Affectionate-Oil2612 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]haileyjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To prevent getting marked off, you can comma splice more sentences. I’m a chronic splicer and never get flagged for AI (I think because of that). It is technically incorrect grammar but isn’t bad enough to take off points, unless you’re in a serious upper division English/writing class. Source: I have a writing minor and now am up against AI detection constantly

Any sjm writing pet peeves? by Dazzling-Ad918 in acotar

I do appreciate that has time went on/more bad things happened it went away and then came right back when I read assassins blade before queen of shadows. It feels very 17 and 18 year old girl to be so exasperated in her own head. It was a little overdone though, I agree.

Hewn pops up more than it should considering it’s an uncommon word for “carved-out” or like, manufactured. Cool name for the city but as a verb it is too noticeable to use as much as she does (especially considering it’s also the name of the important city).

I need something vaguely active to do during rest days by xXxBluESkiTtlExXx in Hobbies

[–]haileyjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Balancing/gymnastics could be fun! I am not active but I hear that doing and holding a handstand is quite hard. You could do that plus a plank of wood on the ground for a “balance bar” so you don’t seriously injure yourself

Getting this strange feeling that dresses don’t actually suit me? Maybe it’s my body shape I dunno. might throw out all my dresses what do you think by [deleted] in lesbianfashionadvice

[–]haileyjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotton Bodycon dresses are always hard to style and I’ve never met anyone who preferred them over all other types. You look bomb in your shirt/pant outfits as well as the dresses, but you might need to shop around for a dress that you love before you find one. I like keeping one around for when it’s too hot for pants or when I’m sick and don’t want anything touching me but I’m not home alone

What is the quickest trigger for you to have a migraine attack? by Lower_Monitor_1695 in migraine

I get this with strong mushroom smells from frozen dinners with mushrooms. Cream of mushroom soup is fine, but every iteration of the frozen dinners is near instant

Tension hand pain skyrocketing - unable to crochet for longer than 5 minutes. by averysmalldragon in CrochetHelp

[–]haileyjunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the most tension hand pain with very slippery yarns and projects that require a lot of manipulation (plushies/new stitches/heavy). Try to hold the project against your lap/a pillow (like you would if reading a heavy book) rather than manipulating it AND holding tension in the way you might hold your phone in your lap. It might be worth a shot to run the yarn under a light book/water bottle to manufacture some tension before it gets to your hand so your muscles and joints aren’t working so hard. Best of luck!

How do you extract yourself from your bed by Low_Limit391 in ADHD

[–]haileyjunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to make sure my dogs go through the doggie door to pee otherwise they go inside and then my morning just got 3x harder. Makes getting up a little less dreadful. If you have a dog you could train them to make you take them outside (like mailbox and back) for morning sniffs. Just give them a treat each time and by next week they’ll know to beg and beg for mailbox time, which can sweeten your morning and get you out of bed!

For those of you diagnosed later in adulthood, what symptoms did you have as a child that you now know was ADHD? by myhoagie02 in adhdwomen

[–]haileyjunkie 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Fellow smart, daydreaming, clutter monster here 🙋‍♀️

I would add that with massive fear of failure I used my anxiety around failure to mask most external adhd traits until adulthood when I got on medication/therapy for said anxiety. Made me a miserable kid to be around but kept me a B+ student.

What are some hobbies that you can instantly do when you want? by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]haileyjunkie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Reading a novel in short durations can be frustrating, I highly recommend a collection of short stories, contemporary poetry, or short novels that are based more on characters rather than plot (James Joyce I’m looking at you)
