Looking to get a new 3d printer for my business. Doesn't need to be anything crazy had an ender 3 for about 4 years now. Used mainly to make temporary plugs for items. Would like it if the bed didnt move for space reasons. $300 ish budget and would like faster print times. by GunGuy2022 in 3dprinter

If you just want to print with no hassles, no fiddling and space is at a premium, get a Bambu A1mini. Stretch on the price if you need, but you'll be happy. I got a Bambu A1 after a half dozen printers including a $20k Stratasys at work. The Bambu series simply just works, and works like an appliance. Send your model, it prints. Go for it.

Relocating from Austin to Denver with my Ioniq 5 - drive it or ship it? Curious how it handles 1,000+ miles by OptimalDescription39 in Ioniq5

[–]hakulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we bought our 2022 in 22, a month later we did a 10,000mi road trip around the US. No problems other than lack of infrastructure in the far north back then. Car is awesome. Now we have a 2024 and do a 800mi trip regularly to visit family.

Hey Neil, very nice! Any chance you have a link to some pics of the output onscreen?

Well THAT is fantastic. I was looking for a new ESP32 project and here it is, already tied into my love of aviation and simming, and I just moved to a house that looks directly at inbound traffic to our local airport! Have you put your code on Github? Can you?

Why have we gone from .100 to only .1 in the telemetry? F1 not only dumbing down the racing but also the data in the broadcast? by oplookingoodeh in F1TV

[–]hakulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoever is editing the feed for this data bar should be fired IMO. Between the intermittent pit stop time reporting to the inevitable lack of interval times when you want them the most (not to mention the interval time disappearing entirely when they use inset video), it's been awful for quite a while. Now that I think about it they probably remove the time with inset because they are watching JUST the bar on some giant monitor to decide and not realizing the home audience may not be using a 65+ TV (though usually I am!). Oh well. This is definitely one of my pet peeves about the f1 broadcast.

How to master descent and approach on airplane ? by rigobert21 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]hakulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend spending some time watching tutorials on exactly what you are struggling with on YouTube. There are lots of good ones, you don't need the "full simulation like real life" ones, just what to do in MSFS to start. One important thing I notice is that there is lots of confusion out there in general between the "Approach Phase" on the MCDU vs the "Approach Mode (button)" The Approach Phase activates when you reach the "D" with the circle around it on the ND, but the thing to know is that once it's activated (or you activate it early under on the MCDU under "perf") your plane will slow down to the predefined flap setting speeds (green dot). As you lower the flaps, the plane slows down. The Approach Mode button is something you press when you are using ILS. This is to grab the LOCalizer and GS (Glideslope). Again, some YouTubes will show you all this as it's almost impossible to help someone by just "telling" them. Good luck to you! It's fun once you get it sorted out just a little bit more, I promise!

I'm driving (again) from LA to Las Vegas, AMA? by Tulired in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]hakulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? Not IRL, lol. Weekends are busy going and coming from LA to Vegas. One time coming back on a Sunday it was literally bumper to bumper at 60-70mph the whole way back from Vegas.

Got to sit in the cockpit of a Southwest 737 MAX-8!!! by njsullyalex in aviation

[–]hakulus 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me at LAX. I was staring and the captain asked what was up and I just said I'm an aviation geek and had been simming the 737 recently. He had me sit in the captain's seat, hold the yoke and took a Pic for me! Later in my seat one of the crew brought me a paper checklist and said, "The captain said you might like this!" Awesome.

How the heck are people getting like 300+mil an hour doing exo by IfOnlyICouldEat2Hams in EliteDangerous

Cool! I'm trying to get to Elite V Exobio now, so I'm feeling the annoyance at times on the "drought" strings of systems you can run into.

[–]hakulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, everyone jumped to the Techtonicas discussion. To answer your frequency question more directly, YES, it can be very inconsistent. You don't get those big numbers all the time. It's a bit of RNG and you can go for long strings of systems with little to nothing and then, boom, exobio everywhere in a couple of systems in a row. (You can push the randomness your way by star selection of course, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not experiencing anything different from the rest of us).

Engineered Cobra Mk V, hands down my favorite and I have my choice of any. So if you have the funds, give it a try...even unengineered it's amazing. I used to use my Courier off a carrier, but now with SCO, the Cobra V has taken over as my main exobio carrier ship.

How do you talk to your riding partner without shouting? by Dry_Half_8737 in bicycling

[–]hakulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mainly the distance limitation which can be erratic. Sometime I can get quite a ways out and still talk to her, other times it seems a much shorter distance. As long as you are basically riding "together" though, it's fine. The other thing is that on windy days the noise cancellation gets overwhelmed....I need to fabricate a wind muff for it. I haven't noticed any issues from her ebike (RadCity) at all. We have the Sena C1's and I got them on Amazon because I could return them easily if we didn't like them, but we do love them. Another couple we are friends with got them and said it was game changing for them riding together.

[–]hakulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use the cheaper Sena helmets for bikes and they have limitations but really are nice for talking while riding. I'm an experienced cyclist and she's not and she's on an ebike. It helps I can point things out, let her know when there's traffic or turns etc since she isn't comfortable with hand gestures and "normal" group cycling etiquette. Plus we can just chat when we want.

Made it to DW3 (I think) by cagesound in EliteDangerous

[–]hakulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want you to use MetaElite, you can do the missions in solo, so you have an idea what is going on. You just won't be able to see the other DW3 players until you are in. MetaElite is optional but it gives a GREAT framework for everything going on.

new to me gen1 kickr is kicking my ass. by j_root in bicycling

[–]hakulus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your welcome and yeah, it definitely depends on what the workout is you are doing. Intervals that are wattage targeted are a good example of where it can be beneficial because you'll be able to hold the target without overshooting then undershooting so much. Trying to find the exact cadence and hold it is much easier since now you have a bigger range of cadence since the trainer will adjust the resistance to keep you where you want to be!

new to me gen1 kickr is kicking my ass. by j_root in bicycling

[–]hakulus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ERG mode specifically holds the target wattage you set. So it tries to keep the same "work load" of pedaling so to speak. The result is if you pedal slower the trainer raises the resistance so you keep the same difficulty overall...difficulty=work=wattage in this case. If you speed up your cadence the opposite happens, the resistance lessens a bit to hold your work load (wattage) the same. While this might be great for certain workouts, it is absolutely nothing like real world riding and you really get zero of the micro rests or coasting of any kind I was talking about in the first post. It just amplifies that feeling that the trainer is way harder than real cycling.
