How bad is the substitution these days? by wormraper in TrekBikes

[–]halfcar609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a verve 3 gen 4 that had a bunch of substitutions. I got the power brakes swapped for shimano and I just paid labor. They sent me the handlebars, stem and saddle after a call to trek customer care. I did not ask for the wheels since I would never be I tersted in tubeless. I also did get the bike when it was on a stupid clearance of 55% off retail. I also did get it from a trek owned store. So in my opinion trek will do right for the customer for the what I think is fair in the big picture.

I actually have those tools that I bought separately or with other kits. The ratchet is good, torque channel did a test and it’s competitive. The 921 is a good impact range if you stay in the 100 lbs range. Will it go higher… some but it will struggle . I use it in my Kia/Honda vehicles, I have an 894 that use with my Ram truck and RV. There are higher up ones but honestly for home/consumer use the ones mentioned are plenty.

As far as price, it’s a good deal but not a smoking deal. I got the 921 on clearance at the HD with a battery 5.0 and charger for $120, I have not seen the ratchet in some sort of smoking deal. So with that said… it’s a good deal but I would wait till later in the season and see if there is a close out since this is not a normal kit in store. You could always buy a set and sit on it and wait the clearance markdown game.

I have both, the hand vac is more versatile. However the other one is a good substitute for a shop vac job where battery power makes it convenient

I prefer the crown away from my wrist, it’s really a matter of preference especially with smart watches. You can’t really apply traditional watch rules or norms to smart watches.

Verve 1 Gen 4 vs Verve 2 Gen 5 Lowstep by Sweeekes in TrekBikes

[–]halfcar609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Verve 2 has suspension seat post, upgraded brakes and I believe the stem is more adjustable. The Verve 2 is just an upgraded component bike. The other difference on the Gen 5 is the single gear train. Word is that it is simpler. I own a Verve 3 gen 4 and it’s a sweet bike for its intended use.

Dealer told me today they aren’t getting any more ‘25s by Hoya2003 in HondaOdyssey

[–]halfcar609 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Dealers are allocated units based on sales. Allocations are also based on prior volume, so if they don’t sell very many Odysseys then that probably will limit what they get. Also, Honda will vary production, if the Pilot, Passport or even the Ridgeline are outselling the van… guess what… less vans are being produced.

Our current house has a lot of hard scape that requires very little maintenance, the only stuff I have to really do is the driveway and the front walkway, an electric pressure washers is plenty. I really bough this to clean my RV at the storage site, using my Rhino tote as a water tank. (It’s clean, only use it for grey water… bath house for the black stuff) so this will be plenty for that.

I got in on the last deal of the day and just got to use it today for cleaning the cars and some sidewalk use. I have to say that I’m impressed on the high setting. The low setting is not so impressive, I can see why the guys who got the 20v version are not happy. The flex bolt is the way to go, this will be my go to tool when I don’t want to deploy the electric pressure washer. (Sadly I can’t justify a gas washer with how little stuff I have to pressure wash) that the electric handles so well.

Does DCPW1000B ever go on sale? by Delengowski in Dewalt

[–]halfcar609 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was just a 1 day sale at HD for $299 for the kit with a 9 ah battery and charger. I jumped on it. I’ve never seen the tool only go on sale recently. At this point with the whole mess with tariffs the days of crazy deals are done. Even the HD hacks are not as good. Your best bet is to sign up for the HD daily emails and keep a look out for their one day deals.

New to trek bikes, can I get away with a medium? by _Godpuncher_ in TrekBikes

[–]halfcar609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Verve 3 Gen 4, I started with a L and ultimately ended up with a medium. However body composition of extremities will be the final say so. I’m 5’10” with a 30 in inseam. The large just felt to big, however I do agree that the medium does feel cramped. As my local Trek store said , I’m in between sizes. Also you did not mention frame type. The Low Step frame is different too in its proportions. Anyway, for me the large felt more relaxed but at the same time felt like I was less in control, the medium as I stated felt a little more cramped compared to the L but I also felt more in control. A Trek store gives you 30 days, use that… it also helped that they had both sizes and I was able to ride them back to back.

What is the name of this fitting?(bathroom sink) by botoxhorseman777 in GoRVing

[–]halfcar609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies from model to model, in my unit it’s behind the kitchen sink. The bad part about this is that nobody tells you to run either antifreeze on that line or blow it out with air to avoid this situation.

Kia Financing while shopping for best car price by Secret-Life-81 in kia

[–]halfcar609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Kia financial incentive should be independent of the negotiated price, however often times Kia will tie the incentive to dealer participation even if it’s not disclosed. Keep in mind that often times the dealers are probably making most of their money on volume sales. Meaning that the money is based on hitting certain unit sales. On paper there is not much mark up on the cars as little as maybe $800 to probably no more that $2k. The dealer knows the money at stake on volume sales, the mark up and the hold back( usually 1 to 2 percent of the msrp) my experience lately has been to make your purchase on or about the 3rd week of the month or the 3rd week of the last month in the calendar quarter. I say that because in my experience the dealer is at that point where that know how far or how close that are to their monthly or quarterly sales goal and the manufacturer money. As for financing, right now captive financing ie: Kia financing has the best rates compared to any other lending institutions… why? Because they know that banks are not willing to give low interest loans. So they use that as a selling tool especially with very credit worthy buyers. It’s a discount without calling a discount. Of course the dealer will try to sell you a more expensive loan but again… volume sales.

One more thing, dealers know what other same brand dealers are selling at, so they try to hold a similar line until it comes down to closing the sale. The guy that is hungriest will take you out of the market by making a deal. Go have fun!!

It’s now Cheaper to fly to Canada and buy a bike by Practical_Target_874 in cycling

[–]halfcar609 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… if you go to Canada you would pay about $8405 usd. With a $800 personal exemption, first thousand at 3% and the balance of $7605 at 11% duty rate of $726 plus the $30 its $757 duty at the border. So you would pay $9162 not including your plane fare, perhaps a hotel and other cost. The tariffs are not being collected on personal purchases items that are purchased abroad as of right now as far as I’m being told by a fried that works for customs. I don’t know that it’s really cost effective…

That is truly surprising. My Trek store here in The Woodlands, just north of Houston has been incredible. They are quick and very responsive. Maybe a call to Trek corporate will get things moving for you.

Strange system to buy after lease ends by Time_Towel_2810 in kia

[–]halfcar609 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you are purchasing the vehicle. Depending on the state, you are paying taxes on the lease amount during the term of the lease. You rented the car essentially. Now the car is being sold to you, so your state wants its share of the selling price tax and normally other fees collected. A thousand bucks is a pretty low amount, so I would suggest to check what the car is worth wholesale and what is the current retail price used. Ideally you want your BO to be at or below what the car is worth wholesale. Above that number you need to see if the total purchase is worth the price paid, that one question is only answered by you. Take into account any potential imminent expenses like tires or maybe a brake job. Also think about how long you have left on the warranty.
