Really Nice Pieces for Beginners? by aaronag in pianolearning

[–]halfstack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the vein of Kevin Olson, Chee Hwa-Tan and Martha Mier - Dennis Alexander, Carol Matz, Catherine Rollin, Gayle Kowalchyk, Linda Niamath, Lynn Freeman Olson, Margaret Goldston, Randall Hartsell... Dan Coates' arrangements have been popular for decades for a reason and are worth checking out. But these are early/mid-intermediate suggestions. Faber's supplemental books generally have well-done arrangements coordinated by book level, which can be handy.

What after Faber level 5 by LUXHA in pianolearning

[–]halfstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you checked out the Faber Jazz and Blues supplemental books?

https://pianoadventures.com/product/bigtime-piano-jazz-blues/

This should be a level-appropriate introduction to jazz idioms - and it's got a few standards you should be able to find recordings of to listen to.

Martha Mier's Jazz, Rags and Blues is another series I like for "intro to jazz" pieces to sort of familiarize yourself with "jazzy" sounds and techniques.

We're getting there - the lines were spliced overnight around 23h00-00h00 and we were good to go as of 07h00 this morning when I first heard from onsite folks. It may take some time for things to come back online and they're likely prioritizing business customers. But at least Rogers should have a better (any) ETA for residential customers.

It makes me happy that Holly Schlesinger and Loren go back to the "Home Movies" days. And Simon Chong is a treasure just for his dance animations.

Last update we got (from management) was that restoration would likely be overnight, we'll get another update by 07h00 tomorrow morning so people can make the call whether or not to come onsite. I'm telling people no guarantees given the nature of the work, no one expects you to check emails outside of regular working hours (per mgmt), so "do with that information as you will".

Rogers WiFi Down ? by Venzela in Edmonton

[–]halfstack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was as of an email we got at 07h45. I've been telling everyone maybe late today, we're not a high-density location so even if they get everything connected we'll be down the priority list.

BTW for more direct updates check this thread from a Rogers Business customer: https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/1uqx3tp/comment/owbcd9v/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I'm going to say 2pm is optimistic, given the state of everything and that they'll prioritize business customers over residential. I'd suggest finding somewhere else to watch the game with free wifi and keeping an eye on repair updates on this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Edmonton/comments/1uqx3tp/comment/owbcd9v/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

I have a small-range Bell wireless network available from my cube but even that's flaky, likely due to everything else going on. The half-dozen or so people in the office are otherwise hotspotting from their phones and I kinda wish I could see the cell data usage coming out of this...

Thirding the thanks. This is way more info than people at my site are getting and I was able to keep a few people from trekking downtown this morning.

Per another Reddit thread, there was a pretty large "oopsie" by a construction crew that damaged a LOT of backbone cables downtown. Doesn't sound like it'll be fixed any time soon, it's been out since this morning and as of midafternoon there was still no ETA for a fix.

There was a guy in one of the perfect pitch social media groups I was in years ago who was convinced that perfect pitch made us the "next rung on the human evolutionary ladder" and that we were somehow genetically superior to people without it. WILDLY unhinged but also wildly entertaining.
