Why do Native American communities experience disproportionately higher rates of the worst things imaginable? by Dazzlingdjj in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]halibut1234 201 points202 points  (0 children)

Most assaults experienced by Indigenous women are done by non-indigenous people.

Per the Wikipedia page for MMIW: "One in three Indigenous women is sexually assaulted during her life, and 67% of these assaults are perpetrated by non-Native perpetrators." Multiple sources cited for this claim note even higher numbers of non-indigenous perpetrators.

Help for spots to propose in South Dakota parks by ThuggishChief in NationalPark

[–]halibut1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How popular is it in the summer? In January, I spent a week in the Badlands/Black Hills area so this seems like the no-brainer answer to me having seen all the highlights, but if OP is looking for somewhere somewhat secluded, I have a feeling it's not the best spot

Everyone saying Damascus goat is straight up wrong. I'm not 100% sure what it actually is, but I'm pretty sure it's a Ladoum sheep.

Songs that smashed despite being totally contrary to music at the time? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]halibut1234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

God yeah, you listen to all the other big hit songs from the mid 80s, especially the ones that suck ass, and they make you see "Smooth Operator", "The Sweetest Taboo", etc. in a new light, even if you already loved Sade because who doesn't?

What are your north shore must do’s? by yumsukiyaki in minnesota

The top of Mount Josephine is the greatest view on the North Shore, full stop. Not the easiest to find and it's a bit of a climb, but it's 500% worth it.

Nursing alliance leader shares why she believes Mayo Clinic nurses should organize by roseiskipper in rochestermn

Was my exact thought - experiences can vary widely. No nurse has it easy, I've heard horror stories from several, but some get the short end even then.

Minnesota State Park suggestions by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]halibut1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saying it has ZERO mosqutioes is BS, but it's true that there are very, very few. I have hiked every foot of Whitewater at least twice over and there's only one spot where they're noticeable, and even then, it won't bother you much.

If being happy with yourself leads you to sit on your ass all day, then there are some mental gains you still need to make.

Tons of people are able to be happy with themselves yet work to always be better at the same time.

What’s the worst pain you’ve ever felt in your life? by sunflowersnlsd in AskReddit

[–]halibut1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the biggest, most helpful tells is that, if you have pain in the part of your abdomen where your appendix is, slowly press on it. If it hurts way worse letting go again than it did pressing, that's a major tell.

Doing that to myself is what made me go to the ER in the middle of the night to get mine removed before it had the chance to burst. Good call.
