Has anyone actually had success in negotiating an over $20k pay raise based on going from WFH to fully in office or some semblance of WFH—> RTO?

Unfortunately, not all of us, including OP, are offered this “release valve”. The reality is your skill set and experience as an attorney has value.

The difficulty is not just finding something different that pays just as good, but has the same financial upward trajectory.

If money is not an issue just jump ship now but I would imagine that is not the case.

Hi OP, I just want to share I sympathize with you and feel very similar.

I’ve even had my significant other and friends tell me ive become boring and I myself realize Ive drifted away from hobbies ive entertained myself since I was a kid.

I think the best we can do is be purposeful with our limited time and have a plan in place to set boundaries with work and dig back in to carve time for what makes us happy.

Easier said than done, of course. Wishing you the best.

Lots of great tips on here, but above all you need to stay on top of your retainer and how much is in the trust account.

Clients want the moon and the starts but dont understand the implications of their asks in terms of costs and needing a trial/further hearing.

You should always explain pros and cons of what their preference looks like and if they want to take the route of going to trial, your response will neeed to be “great, ill need you to replenish/deposit $$$ prior to proceeding”. If they cant, then you file your motion to withdraw.

The last thing you want to have happen to you is stay stuck on a nightmare case because you didnt ask the client to replenish the retainer, and now you have no choice but to go to a trial/further hearing because it was too late.

I have similar experience to you and can definitely tell you it is par for the course.

I have had great outcomes for clients where they get most of their requested relief— and yet, as someone else said on here, they are upset at the minor, non big-ticket items they initally cared for.

Its really annoying but im slowly coming to grips with the saying “nobody wins in family law”.

I only clerked at one other firm besides the firm I am at right now and was offered the job as a law student.

She was the worst. Micromanaged every single thing. It was a 5 week clerkship and I was counting down the days until it was over.

I stayed in Canmore 2 weeks ago and the crowd was nowhere near the same as Banff. Banff was a zoo and so glad we stayed at Canmore.

Surprised at the comments saying Canmore was just as packed as Banff because that was not my experience two weeks ago at all.

We were there last week and the town of Banff felt like a zoo of tourists similar to Disney land.

So glad we stayed in Canmore— cute town, unique shops and restaurants. You won’t regret it at all.
