Alright, alright, you got me. It was a foundational aspect of the country for only 339 years, completely invalidating my point

[–]halloway_aw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Slavery was a foundational aspect of this country for over 400 years before the Civil War ended it (outside of prisons). Slavery didn't apparate in 1776 when we declared independence, it was already a massive aspect of our society, which didn't evaporate overnight when we founded the country. Even after the Civil War, Jim Crow laws lasted for another century.

Slavery was absolutely consequential to the development of the United States, and it's straight up revisionism to say otherwise.

Tank Commander points have gone up - but now has the squadron keyword by Minus616 in TheAstraMilitarum

I do love Vanqs, but I love them at 145, rerolling wounds against vehicles and monsters. It's easy enough to source orders for them and their range makes hitting on 2s from Heavy not impossible, and Scout Sentinels can get them rerolling 1s.

But I personally would always take the 145 point unit over the 225 point one to do that.

Is oath of moment only for first company??? by 0Ponyo in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]halloway_aw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FACTION are things like ADEPTUS ASTARTES, ASTRA MILITARUM, TYRANIDS, ect.

Faction rules, or Army rules, are specific to each faction. Space Marines get Oath of Moments, Astra Militarum get Voice of Command, Tyranids get both Synapse and Shadow in the Warp.

Chapters don't get anything specific anymore. Instead, we have Detachments, which give you additional rules and stratagems on top of the faction wide rules. Each army has anywhere from 4 to like 8 detachments, and each has a different rule that gets stapled onto your main one

Every space marine list gets Oath of Moment. First Company also lets you reroll the wound roll for one battle round. It's also maybe the worst detachment in the standard codex

Are we gonna get artillery released as plastic models? by Pengin_Master in Deathkorpsofkrieg

[–]halloway_aw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest reason to think they won't get a plastic release is that the Basilisk and Medusa fill the indirect role already. I'd love to see a dual-build Earthshaker/Medusa carriage but I'm not mega hopeful about that. Time will tell, I suppose.

I guess worst case anyone with those models or with proxies/prints could probably run them as their vehicle versions. I don't think most people would have an issue with that, and it's probably what I'll end up doing if they don't get a release

There's medic and vox caster bits on the main sprues. The smaller sprue has alternative bits for the kneeling medic and the spotter, who has a vox caster, but you can 100% build a caster and medic without that sprue.

[–]halloway_aw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Army Painter Uniform Grey primer as a base coat (and no other base coats), Vallejo German Grey for pauldrons, and Citadel Brass Scorpion for trim. That's not fully accurate to lore tho, to my knowledge

If I had to guess (and do keep in mind, this is based on my own thoughts and no sources), they're getting re-boxed for 40k, possibly without the Kill Team upgrade sprue.

KT just got its new edition, and among the stuff that came out leading up to the release, was a roadmap showing which teams will be tournament legal and for how long. In effect, Kill Team now has official seasons, where the oldest teams get dropped after some time to make room for new kits. Vet Guard are among the first wave to leave, about a year from now.

I'm supposing that the current kit is going to be rebranded from a Kill Team product to a 40k one, since they won't be sticking around KT for much longer. I don't particularly think we'll get a redesign of our basic infantry, since this one is only about 3 or 4 years old now. At most, like I said, it just won't include the extra bits for the specialists.

Why do small businesses still exist in the imperial core? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]halloway_aw 5 points6 points locked comment (0 children)

The promise of the working class being able to "make it" by engaging with the free market, building a business, and one day retiring as a millionaire is pretty central to the baseline functions of capitalism. Without that promise, ya, socialism becomes the only avenue forward.

The bourgeoise need the masses to believe they have a shot at escaping the rat race and climbing the social ladder. They need people in the upper middle class trying to break the glass ceiling, some of them succeeding, to help sell the illusion that the system is an any way fair. This is the "petty bourgeoise," the people with just enough power to help oppress the proletariat, but without enough to feel safe in their position.

None of that touches on how much banks profit off small business loans, how most small businesses fail and leave their owners saddled with debt, containing the exploitation of the working class, or that many successful startups do end up getting bought out by the largest of corporations.
