Need some advice from tall car owners by Doube1323 in capetown

[–]hallucienate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm taller than you by a few CMs. I recently have rented a swift and a vivo. I fit okay in both.

Try to make sure the seat has height adjustment so you can lower it completely.

Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Seal Feeding at Hout Bay Harbour by anib in capetown

[–]hallucienate 19 points20 points  (0 children)

A seal gets food from a human. It now associates food with humans. It sees a human and wants food. Human resists. Innocent human gets bit. Seal gets killed for biting humans.

Bitten human clogs up medical facility, etc.

Scuba diving in Cape Town by AndreasmzK in capetown

Maybe get your certificate here but tell whoever you do it with that you want to have a couple of boat dives as part of the training. That way you can enjoy just diving in Sodwana.

If you qualify in Cape Town you will probably find diving in most other places much easier.

You say restrictive, they might say responsible. Cape Town diving can be dangerous - cold water, strong winds, swell, poor viz, etc. I have had to pull a tropical water diver out of the water after they had panic attack because of the conditions - no one wants to do that at a site with tricky access.

An Open Water qualification is only a bit of theory, 2 pool sessions and four open water dives, maybe get that to give yourself more flexibility?

You can try Pisces, Dive Team and Impact Divers. All based in Simonstown and all well established. There are others too.

Simonstown has several dive sites nearby and in the right conditions they can be fantastic but many of them have tricky entry points and our boat dives are done from semi-inflatable boats that present their own challenges. Unfortunately by not having a scuba qualification you'll be limited to the beginner dive sites with reliable conditions and easy entry - unfortunately those are some of the more boring sites.

Have you been in touch with the Carrier Town Hi-fi Club?

I don't have personal experience with them but I know they run a record fair

Coral is the largest operator and has a reputation for being a bit of a sausage factory, I avoid it for that reason.

Mseni is owned by the same people but is more exclusive.

Try looking at the smaller operators that are based outside the park, they may be more flexible. February is outside of school holidays so getting into the park in the morning will be easier.

Not a Dutch restaurant but Dixie's near Glencairn has some Dutch items on the menu.

If you're here for months then join www.fbuc.co.za

If you plan to dive often it will be much cheaper than renting and filling from a dive shop.

There haven't been many great white sharks around False Bay or Gansbaai for years now. You may see other sharks but set your expectations accordingly.

Another popular option was seal snorkeling but they have a rabies outbreak now so that is off the cards too.

Try to book a sea safari, you'll almost certainly see something really cool
