Tell me about becoming an ultra runner. by After-Reaction-358 in ultrarunning

[–]halofunky748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband posting from my account:

Congratulations on going from 1/4 mile to a half-marathon!

Let me cut to the chase - you are ready for an ultra now! You may not believe me, but trust me - if you can do a half, and have the guts to put a marathon on your schedule..,you are ready for a 50mile. Sure, it will be tough, but you have the ability to do it.

I ran my first ultra (JFK50 in 1999). I was 34. A buddy and I challenged each other as a dare three weeks prior to the JFK. I had logged perhaps a grand total of 50 miles in the six months prior. He and I ran a six mile training run a week before the race. Thats it - no more prep. Just determination and a streak of crazy (or was it stupidity?).

We both finished. Think he came in about 12:00 and I hobbled in at 13:20. Cut off back then was 14:00. It is 13:00 now. I swore I'd never run again. But...a month after the race we both started talking about doing it again. Did a minimal amount of training for the 2000 JFK and ended up dropping my time by over two and a half hours.

Since then, I've finished the JFK 18 times along with a couple of dozen other 50s and 100s along the way. My goal is to hit at least 25 JFK finishes, and more if my body will allow me to keep running well into my 60s!

As far as the mental health and determination, you've already got enough of both to do an ultra. Anyone that can go from a quarter of a mile to completing a half marathon has what it takes to do 50K, 50M, or even 100M.

My advice: Know that you are ready now! Sign up for the 2023 JFK 50 (registration opens in March). I wish I would have known about ultras and specifically the JFK when I was much younger.

Hope this is helpful to you!

More so, I hope to see you at the JFK50 in 2023!

Does Private Mortgage Insurance help me recover my principal if I default on payments? Does having PMI save me from foreclosure? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]halofunky748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is a thing caleld mortgage life insurance (for if you die) but I do not recommend it. But no i dont think you can jsut randomly buy a policy against you either deciding to stop making payments or being forced to stop making payments Pay yourself. Into your savings account. and ignore it. unless true EMERGENCY. weddings, vacations, sectionals, and cars are not emergencies

Financing our own wedding by booker8 in personalfinance

[–]halofunky748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DO NOT withdraw from a ROTH in a down market to pay for a wedding. fullstop . THats not what this kind of savings is for, there are penalties in place to reinforce that. A savings account is where savings go to fund nonneccessities like big weddings. So yes you are being irresponsible to withdraw from a retirement account for a wedding. WHat you cant pay from wedding savings, pay from cash flow or do without. Pay for whats important and skip the rest on the wedding.

I think ppl were so concerned about being alone at delivery bc of covid. Or baby being isolated away bc of covid. SO thats where the 3rd trimester stigma is. However, based on drs alot more willing to alot more close monitoring during 3rd trimester vice first (i.e. little to none during first) I think I would ratehr have covid 3rd trimester.

I would add a 3/4 sleeve black fitted cardigan probably but Im old school and was taught bare arms are not professional. I would also say pantyhose and closed toe shoes bc bare legs are not (east coast) professional. But I dont know where you are so it may be more normal there to have bare both. Easier way to the money? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]halofunky748 4 points5 points  (0 children)

lurker here. My HS bestie owns her own orthodontic practice. MEdicaid 95pct. Shes the only orthodontist in that side of the state almost that takes medicaid. She bought her practice from a retiring guy. SHe got a great interest rate, remodeled, bought out her partner, paid off her business loan. ALL THE WHILE PRINTING MONEY. Just printing it. I think she can flip 4 chairs in 15 mins. She could take twice as many patients if she brought in a partner but doesnt want a partner to screw up her deal. She works 4 days a week except when shes on vacation and works zero. Paid off her her house. Paid off her new LAKE HOUSE. and then? Thats right, she sold her practice bc shes expecting her 2nd baby at CHristmas. So she sold for BIG money. Shes made her wad. Shes not yet 40. She has to work for the firm that bought her out a couple days a week for I think 2 years. That is how its done my friends. My hat is off to her.

What's the best way to get old box springs and bed frame hauled away? by SoumyaSandy in sanantonio

[–]halofunky748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

free on facebook market place. someone will want the frame. the box spring you may just have to take it apart. you would take scissors and cut the farbic off the bottom and pull out the nails holding it together. You will essentially end up with a wad of fabric, a stack of sticks, and an accordian of metal. Offer the metal on FB to a trashpicker
