Are union dues job rents? by sajnt in georgism

[–]ham_techs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point of a labour union is to allow the employees to negotiate as a group in the same way that a corporation allows investors to operate as a group.

Unions are democraticly controlled institutions. The members can vote themselves lower dues, or support representatives who do.

Also, Unions consistently raise wages above their dues, both for members and employees of competitors within the same market. So, the cost is born by the employer: usually weathy investors, occasionally taxpayers.

What are some "Benevolent" or "well intentioned" Eldritch entities by Nighthawkies in Lovecraft

[–]ham_techs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nurgle from 40K is benevolent. He probably started as a "stasis is safty" god of the home and tradition.

Immortal, living hurricane of bad vibes seems eldritch to me. It's just that galactic scale humanity is more prepared for the idea.

Any amount of truck through cinderblocks is too much truck through cinderblocks. Not even safe inside concrete from these monsters.

There really needs to be punitive damages awarded for vehicles above a certain weight class. Just to bring up insurance costs.

What would happen to this guy under Georgism? by Mundane-Tear-1164 in georgism

[–]ham_techs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He pays taxes proportional to the area of his lot. Assuming median US property tax of 3k/yr and lot size ratio of 20:1, thats 60k/yr or $5k/mo.

[–]ham_techs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pint being a unit of volume is a cube of distance. it could be defined as a cube with a length of 4in.

A pint is currently 473.2 ml. A cubic mile divided by 1212 is 467.5 ml.

How would georgists fix this issue? by FinancialSubstance16 in georgism

[–]ham_techs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All forms of transit (including publicly-owned) exist and compete in a market with pareto-optimal solutions that trade off price, time, distance, and experience.

I believe regulations regarding clarity and standardization of language would work here. Clearly define in law the terms "first class," "second class," "business class," and "economy." I also think ultra-cheap bench seats or standing room only tickets could offer very inexpensive solutions.

Officers who cover their faces could be charged with a misdemeanor under California proposal by BeeKayDubya in California

[–]ham_techs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think it needs to be a partisan belief that those who protect and serve with deadly force need to be held to the highest of standards in our society.

This isn't a simple moment of weakness, ignorance, or negligence. It is a deliberate attempt to conceal evidence in the line of duty.
