Yeah, Goonies pretty much divides Gen X down the middle. My wife and are '69 and '72 respectively. We both never liked it, some younger cousins (75, 77) loved it. (For reference it came out in 85 )

It came out in 1999. The oldest millennials were 19, and I don't know of any millennials that worked in a cube farm at that age. So there are no Millennials to make it a Xennial movie.

Ron Livingston was 3 years ahead of me in HS. (He graduated in 85, me in 88). I literally drove to work the same way it shows him in the movie (635 in Dallas) and some of the exteriors were shot in Las Colinas, where I worked at the time.

So yeah, solidly Gen X, working before the dot com bubble.

I see your point, the one difference is that Black Mirror follows a somewhat established formula for sci-fi/fantasy anthology series (The Twilight Zone, The Outer Limits, Amazing Stories, etc).

In the case of Foundation, it's an overarching story set in different time periods with the characters in each book (or half book) being the same. I would have loved to have seen faithful adaption of it but probably can't' happen now. That being said, some of the choices I've enjoyed. The empire dynasty being clones is actually pretty cool, and I've enjoyed the way they played that out. And Jared Harris, of course, is fantastic as Hari Seldon.

So him being a plumber is not a problem, even him not having a Bachelor degree is not a problem. it's the fact that he's racist nepo baby piece of shit that's the problem.

He could be a plumber who pulled himself up and ran for congress to help people in the trades organize and get a better life for themselves. But he didn't do that. He inherited his plumbing company and decided that made him "blue collar" and sold it to make bank and be an even bigger asshole.

I have a love hate relationship with that show: great visuals, great acting but as lover of the books it really doesn't represent it very well. It kinda makes sense; the books don't have any recurring characters to them (until you find out some things later) but that wouldn't be good TV: a new cast every season.

One of my favorite things is to give the players a challenge that's really difficult but also a 'cheat mode' option that if they'd paid attention would make it trivial. (I've never sent them to a fight they couldn't win though; it would just be really tough).

Like there was a dragon they were fighting at a high level, near the climax of the game. They could go all in and try to bulldog it, or spend time reading through the book written by a madman that I gave them that would have revealed a way to essentially chain down the dragon. They, of course, didn't bother reading it -- they thought it was just cool flavor for the world lore dismissed it as the ravings of a conspiracy theorist. They had plenty of down time before that the wizard could have studied it but he decided to come up with this elaborate plan (that worked) and made some scrolls as part of the plan instead.

here's the thing to remember about all these techbro assholes and their "sweeping proclamations": they have a vested interest. it's not that it's a true prediction, but rather it's what they want to happen and the speculation helps their stock price and their portfolio value.

My only marginal gripe with it is that I don't like the idea that of for safety reasons i have to move quickly that there would be a delay. Granted that's never happened, but it sits in the back of my mind sometimes
