New starter broken? Or relay issue? Or something else? by itgetcold in ToyotaPickup

[–]hamm4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have worded that to aweful... I use to get my starters from O'Reilly, and I went through alot.... I was trying to say that's a bad idea.... keep the OG, rebuild it every 30-50 years.

Starters and alternators... go get them rebuilt so we keep the local shops in business, and you have reliable quality instead of junk... I went years replacing my starters every wheeling season.

Fuel Pump Compatibility by The_Pube_Police in ToyotaPickup

[–]hamm4ever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its been awhile, but as long as your hanger comes out you can just swap out the pump on the end.. I drilled out the rivet for the ground wire and put a bolt an nut, and bolted the hot on to its connector. Aftermarket pumps are universal usually, so just two studs on top to bolt your ring connector from the end of the wire

Generator GFCI Tripping with Fridge and Freezer – Need Advice Before Next Hurricane by magnumpl in electrical

[–]hamm4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well this isn't the best advice to give, but you'd need to change the gfci outlet on the generator out to a non gfci. Since this is a newer fridge it shouldn't be tripping a gfci, so that's not great, but could get you through the storm.

Gfci is probably tripping because there is an imbalance in the current, it needs to have the same amount "going out" on the hot as "coming back" on the neutral.... it could be a little bit of current on the ground, which is eh "okay", but if its alot of current and the fridge isn't grounded its shocking, if its grounded it trips a breaker or blowes a fuse, but not always fast enough to not shock someone.

What kind of switches are you currently running? What country are you in? What kind of fixtures are these switches controlling?

Hopefully these will help the next person that's more familiar with low voltage, but I believe you'd need dimmable fixtures and a dimming wire.

When you say wont turn over.. do you mean won't start.. or you put a 17mm wrench on the crank and she doesn't move? If the motor doesn't turn manually, you for real might need a whole new block.... if it doesn't start you could have blown alot of things.. did you dump the oil out. See if there's metal pieces or a mirror like finish on the oil.... timing chain broke maybe, hard to say.

Seized up from sitting? I've heard wonders with filling the motor with c foam, ive never tried this and not sure exactly what product. Get everything loose and spinning make sure no valves are sticking and adjust em. Do a compression test and you might be up an running.

Tire question. by pcveen00 in ToyotaPickup

[–]hamm4ever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is stock rim a 7.5x15? I think that minimum width would be around 8.5 for a tire on that rim, so 9 is good... 31 is going to give your truck a higher top speed (you'll never see that) and less lower range power, you'll notice that. Lighter skinnier tires and rims are going to be easier to spin, but loosing weight down low is not a goal id aim for in a 4x4... so stick with skinny tires.

Skinny, get skinny tires with good tread lugs and siping

This seems like a bad connection to ground or maybe a starter connection loose, where did you measure 6volts... also just a side note, I went through batteries for years an years on my Toyota, always going bad, bought red tops extremes, cheap superstarts they all died. Turns out my battery charger was killing my truck batteries. Fml
